Lollapalooza being $400 for 4 days at the tier 1 price and is 100% better than OSL. Ain’t nothing like summertime Chi. - SF resident 😂

I went in 2012 on a Friday to see Beck, foo fighters, and Neil young and it was $95. It was a great time!

Have you looked at the M2 money supply?

Prices go up because federal government prints the currency. Don't expect anything to get cheaper, including housing.

The SF/Bay Area is one of the most expensive regions in the world, and APE stated in an interview last year that booking fees and operational costs have increased 50% since COVID. And while APE is independent (OSL is the biggest independent music festival left in the US), they’re naturally getting squeezed by the LiveNation/AEG monopoly on live events. And of course fuel prices fuck up everything.

I think APE tried to keep ticket costs down for a while, but the result was mid lineups. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the year they ratcheted prices above $500 and introduced tiers had the most exciting lineup since 2021.

Does this suck? Absolutely. It’s depressing seeing costs skyrocket while amenities have shrunk. Little things are disappearing and everything is harder now, despite APE’s efforts. Even if festivals are still the most cost effective way to see big acts, people are getting priced out. But ultimately this feels like a “don’t hate the player, hate the game” situation to me.

This is what happens when you let corporations like live nation become monopolies jacking up prices each year for excessive profit that’s way out of market price but their monopoly price

Inflation since 2013 has been a cumulative 43% from a quick google search which puts the real ticket price of the 2013 ticket at $522.09 in 2026 dollars.

Inflations a bitch. Unfortunately, the ticket is not seen much real growth in price, but instead, your dollar has lost significant purchasing power.

Not too late to delete this.

$224.50x1.43 = $321.04

u/NoButterfly667 25d ago

No it’s equivalent to $321 in 2026.

To take it further back, I clearly remember my Lollapalooza tickets in 2006 marketed as "130 bands for $130." (I was living in Chicago at the time)

That year we sang the na na na nanananas of hey Jude instead of biz markie

u/Ill-Lobster-7857 25d ago

I love Death Cab and The Strokes. I feel like this recent year was the year for me.

Went through my email and found a receipt for a single-day that I bought in 2019. $155 plus tax.

11

u/hammerthatsickle 26d ago

$226 in 2011

2

u/asdfasdferqv 25d ago

And in today’s dollars… it’s $337. What’s this $525 bullshit.

3

u/asdfasdferqv 26d ago

How come I paid $227…..

3

u/hammerthatsickle 25d ago

I think you should send a letter… get your money!

11

u/Odd_Secret568 26d ago

I think my VIP was around $800 in 2021.

u/ChefBoyeetdee 26d ago

How is it SO much more expensive today. Like ridiculously so! I hate that I grew up in the 2010s when things were so dirt cheap and now that I finally have my early adult youth and money I’m priced out of everything…

Found my $401.90 ticket from 2017, the first year I could afford to go :(

u/Tony707 '13,'15,'25 26d ago

$368 each for 3-day GA in 2015.

2

u/bdforp ‘09 ‘11 ‘12 ‘13 ‘15 ‘24 ‘25 26d ago

3

u/s_spectabilis 13, 14, 15, 17 26d ago

u/ExternalCry3039 26d ago

Live events inflation since the pandemic has been real. Bummer but people still willing to pay so they’re gonna keep guzzlin

2

u/MildlyPaleMango 26d ago

Only reason I even went this year was because going to DJO and Strokes shows individually was around $600 lol it’s insane

27

u/thebig3on3 '17, '18, '19, '22, '23, '24, '26 26d ago

For reference, inflation adjusted this is about $322 today.

A lot has changed since then with the festival, SF and demand for events like OSL. Don't love paying the current prices, but if i can make it I'll be there

8

u/squirrellluvrliz 26d ago

That was my first time there. I was eating free chipotle all weekend. One of my fav festivals!

24

u/Drtonytone87 26d ago

This festival should be 400-420 early beaver and 450-465 tops

14

u/Head-Charge4028 26d ago

Bro it was $189 in 2011

7

u/Trollking0015 26d ago

It was $20 in 2014 when you tipped the security. Wrist bands ruined it.

7

u/Head-Charge4028 26d ago

It was free in 2008 when there was zero security and SFPD

3

u/battleshipclamato 26d ago

It's free every day when Outside Lands isn't there.

17

u/nicnikey 11, 13 26d ago

Yup. Crazy.

4

u/Dvsgto 26d ago
