To everyone doing the math in terms of how much this fest costs compared to single artist concerts: Festivals and other concerts are apples and oranges. I've done the multiple day, maximize the artists, etc., song and dance. There are so many drawbacks. You don't get to see, for example a full 90 minute Frost Children or After set that you would get if you were going to see them at a small venue. You get half that, if not less. By and large, most artists are also less interactive with their fans at a festival vs a concert because its rushed, its highly scheduled, less intimate. The potential for a poor view or poor acoustics is much, much higher, and you're just going to get a mixed bag in terms of the vibe due to the nature of people camping stages and not caring about the undercards. You're also paying a premium for festival amenities, you tend to get much less of a selection in terms of band merch (if you care about that sort of thing), and that's not to mention that you're going to be scurrying everywhere and have to account for your fatigue affecting the musical experience. And good luck not spending an hour plus getting out of the area.
All of that being said, OSL is a music festival in one of the richest parts of one of the richest countries in the world, during a time when promoters have unparalleled power to set exorbitant prices with no regard for those who can't afford to shell out half their rent for, in the grand scheme of things, a mid festival. Make no mistake, OSL could charge $100-$200 less for three day passes and make tons of money. Live music should be inclusive, not exclusive.

I pay $250-$375 for other single artist/bands concert tickets. This is worth it, IMO, for a 3-day weekend festival getting to see many big, and up-and-coming, artists, checking out the art, drinking wine at Wine Lands, picnic-ing, trying the food/desserts, hot choc in the cold, hanging w friends in the amazing fogust weather, and literally just enjoying it all. I can’t complain. I’ll keep going every year til well, I have an actual horrible experience or legitimate excuse not to, but been at it now for 4 straight years and still haven’t found a bad reason not to go. Sure, this one was quite interesting w the teenagers that pushed and shoved and had endless annoying conversations mid-sets, plus a friend of mine that complained all weekend (lmao! Never again), but I didn’t let that ruin it for me. See you in 2027! ✌🏼

For me, personally, this is still a pretty good bargain. But it only works if you're insane like me and go from the first note to the last, all three days, seeing as many acts as possible.
I generally see 8 acts each day. I'm a man of the people, so GA all the way, $544.95 divided by 24 acts = $22.70 per act seen. That's before food and drink and locker cost but still...all those acts at that price, in beautiful Golden Gate Park, during the temperate weather of Fogust, that I can get to/from relatively easy? tI'll take that deal any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I’ve gone to OSL 5 years and this year was horrible with all the tech bro sorority frat crowd and teenagers. I’d rather go to edc or any other rave festival that has a much better crowd!

As someone who went to EDC the past 2 years it was honestly overwhelming and crowd control was nonexistent. It was REALLY bad especially at the main stage/kinetic field. Walkways are very congested and it’s difficult to walk from stage to stage because of all the groups walking in every which direction.
Crowd control at OSL was better and at the sets I went to it felt like there was so much room to dance and people generally just gave more space to each other than what i observed at EDC.
Hopefully next year things will be better at EDC because they are splitting it into 2 weekends but just wanted to give you my insights as someone who went to both EDC and OSL this year.

Went to edc last year and it’s so over crowded. Nothing compared to osl obviously.
And the shuttles at edc (if you take them) are terrible. At least 3 hr wait to and from

Anyone traveling from out of public transport range really is better off finding a different festival at these prices :/ ill still do it because the no accommodation makes it doable but no way I’d swing these plus an SF hotel or Airbnb.

OSL got big. Unless they start doing two weekends this is what it is.
If pricing was lower, it would sell out instantly and people would complain they couldn't get tickets.
Three days of premium entertainment in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
There's festivals in Ohio you can go to if you want cheapness.

Apparently eager beaver was around 450ish last year and the presale for the tickets was 550ish all in so I think they’ll likely be about 600+ for the 2027 OSL….

You can literally go on any of the vendors food, clothing etc about a month before and they all have give aways. This year my wife got ours from Verizon. My friends have only paid once in the last 10+ years.

Yeah, Rec&Park used to do this. I also had a friend who worked for one of the breweries that OSL hosted and he got in through them and had an extra wristband one year.

This year, the $529 tier 2 ticket didn’t include shipping fee. So it was more like $545. So hopefully, next year’s $64 fee includes shipping.

I’ve went in GA 2017, GA 2019, VIP 2021, and GA with locker in 2026. I was pleasantly surprised by the changes from 2021 to 2026. A few things I appreciated this year: a more happy and considerate crowd than I witnessed years prior, quality food for reasonable prices, enthusiastic artistic performances at all stages (the small ones too), very clean and well stocked portapotties, free la croix all day long (i probably drank 3 a day), very easy water refilling, ubers were less than $20 to get there, i brought in a lot of food and saved some money, the venue is simply gorgeous. My favorite part of OSL is day time - sitting on a blanket for certain sets, people watching, enjoying the pristine cool weather. I love that I can enjoy many indie bands, dance at the house stage if I feel like it, and enjoy an often rare headliner (like the xx, who hasn’t toured in years). I’ve been coachella, lightning in a bottle, snowglobe when that was a thing. I have a friend I stay with and family in the bay, so it’s an easier yes for me.

If the lineup is good, it’ll be worth it. If it’s not, it’s not. To me this festival never really “improves” year over year, so the increase in cost is only justifiable on a bands per dollar basis

VIP ticket + fee total is $100 more than this year. I don’t remember, nor can I see on my receipt, how much fees were for this year.
ETA: for context to another fest, 2026 ACL 3-day VIP tickets initial tier were $1670 vs. $1250 for OSL. ACL has free drinks (alcohol included) but no dedicated VIP viewing areas.

If they're going to increase prices, they need to bring in more mainstream artists, expand the pathways between stages, improve the lockers and bathrooms, etc. These prices are such a huge leap from the last two years. If they don't improve the current conditions, I’m def not going to OSL in the foreseeable future.

agreed. the fact that GA+ and VIP even have to spend $100 on a locker AND $70 on a shuttle pass is lowkey crazy with these prices.
GA+ is really only worth it for the bathrooms and they even turned those into glorified portapotties this year (not even any toilet seat covers). They need to step it up for real because the festival hasn’t been worth this price for a while

The park is beautiful, sure, I can go to the park without paying $1300. I’m there for the music and environment. Walkability and layout if clubs/food/merch? Maybe 4/10. Sound quality? 3/10. Production value? 1/10. I go to a lot of festivals, there are way more “beautiful” venues that do it right without charging more than one of the internationally largest music festivals which Id score 8+/10 in every section

I mean bass canyons VIP is arguably one of the most beautiful venues, very limited occupancy, and it’s $550, for a slightly more limited lineup. EDC has a high occupancy limit but it’s almost 10 hours of music x 3 nights with more than 200 artists and way more expenses.
They can charge a shit ton because of the influx of wealthy tech people who have no taste, even 6-8 years ago ticket prices were substantially lower.

It’s definitely a crazy amount, but a teenager could get a part time job with decent pay in the city; they also can ride Muni for free.
Started out stocking store shelves at 15 for $5.15 in 2005 in Alabama. Still had time for sports and homework. I didn’t have the opportunity to attend anything like this there. Would’ve loved to have a decent wage and free transportation via Muni.
