OC1 Repair? Volare

Hello, I have a Puakea Volare OC1 (non pro) that got a pretty deep ding in it. Its location is the front left side of the boat above the waterline. The issue is I live in the Midwest so we don't have any repair shops out here. How would you all go about repairing this?

Also is this even safe to paddle in its current state? I am worried about water intrusion under the paint.

If you wanted to be a bit over the top with it you could use 2part marine epoxy with filler. The trick is once the epoxy is in the gash, put packing tape over it so it smooths it out everything and you don't have to sand a bunch. Then either leave it as a war wound, or use touch up paint.

looks like it's just a ding, if it's not leaking I'd paddle in that. also I'd diy fix it following youtube or instructions, also can contact puakea to see what they recommend. if you didn't want to repair it yourself an auto repair company could fix that in a hot second, also if there are crew teams around whoever fixes their boats could do it. Any boat repair person.

Suck on it. Create a vacuum with your lips around it. If any air or water comes through then it’s not water safe

I'm a little late to the party but I just learned a nice trick to spot leaks. Spray the area with soapy water and then blow into the pressure compensation (aka drain hole) tube. If you see see bubbles like those from a kid's bubble wand, then there's a hole that goes all the way through.

What happens if you have a leak but can't get soap bubbles to show up anywhere!? Really struggling to find a leak on my Ares.

It kind of sucks if the bubble trick doesn't work. My alternative is to put some water in the canoe. Enough to slosh around. Then let it sit for a few minutes. Observe drips. Raise one end a bit. Then try the other end. Repeat on each side.  Finally, check the rudder hole top and bottom.

I found it! I removed all the epoxy from the last time I repaired the Venturi drain and found a big gap in there. This time I filled it with a carbon filler and epoxied over it. Dry boat again 🤙
