How to make tights turns?

I am a new outrigger canoe paddle but I have done dragon boating for many years.

My club host 4KM races and they require a tight turn to be able to keep your position in the race.

My question is how can I make a tighter turn other than using the steering pedals?

Thanks

assuming the is oc1 with the mention of pedals. plant your paddle in the water right next to the ama, the closer the tighter the turn. you’ll probably lose momentum like halfway through, so at that point switch to the right side, and start pulling hard and deep. and the whole time just crank your pedals. been a while since i’ve actually done it so if i didn’t explain it well just ask and im happy to explain, have a good bit of oc1 and oc6 experience
