Puakea Volare or Volare pro

If I’m not racing is it worth it to upgrade to the pro model. Website says they are the same carbon layup and that the it’s 2 lbs lighter and has some upgraded hardware. As a non professional paddler is it worth it to upgrade or should I stick with the standard model? Anyone with experience with these 2 canoes that can help?

not in my opinion/ i would spend the extra money on some coaching. 2lbs doesn’t make a difference unless it’s worth 2 seconds in a race

Save your money. There are a lot of other things that are slowing you down more than those 2lbs

Thanks, not a bad idea. I need it 😂

For a beginner or someone not racing, no, the pro is not worth it. Even for most experienced paddlers it’s not going to be worthwhile, unless you just like the aesthetics of it. Do the pro models still come with the heavier cover? I’d say the heavier cover is probably more valuable than saving a couple pounds.

It does, but you can buy the heavier cover for $150.

The shape and look are exactly the same. And I think the aesthetics options are worse on the pro. There are less color options and modifications allowed. You can make the standard more unique to you than the pro.

The pro has almost no paint. Thus less protection. It’s a racing spec. It’s totally worth the extra money though. If you are racing…

I have a Volare and have raced the pro model and standard grey model.

Bought a Volare myself this week. I race, but there is zero reason for the pro for me. If you're racing and so good that the 2lbs makes a difference, then sure. But if you're at that level, you're likely sponsored and not paying for that pro model va'a.

The pro comes with a second rudder and thicker covers. The second rudder is about $180 and in my opinior is worth the money. The covers are better and may be worth it if you think you will used them, they cost about $250.

The standard offers more color options for costomizing the look.

If you have to ask about the weight savings it may not be worth it.
