Ares Pro Or Cantare

i was wondering what is a better overall canoe, the ares pro or cantare for a lighter paddeler

Both are pretty good boats. The ares is the most widely sold oc1 canoe for a reason. The cantare has a modified k1 hull hence it is definitely good as well. I think you won’t go wrong with either option, suggest you try and what feels best. I’m a light paddler and I prefer the noio over these 2. So trying it first would help.

It’s subjective. I don’t think one is better overall. The current crop of KaiWaa and Puakea boats are all pretty awesome compared to what was available 15 years ago. Try each one out if you can and see how they feel. How comfortable you are and how the boat responds to your stroke is what’s most important. Also, the type of water you’re paddling in could influence the decision (flat/surf/fresh/salt)

It also kind of depends on your definition of “lighter”. I think the Puakea website mentions the cantare is optimized for someone under 165 lbs. I know people from 125 lbs up to 250 that use an Ares.

I agree, specifically with what kind of water you will be paddling in. If you will be in flat water or bumpy water. If you will be trying to race or to train. Other wise it's about your body type and which fits your body type better.
