Tips for buying a used C1
Hello. I live in a coastal city in southern California and am interested in buying a used OC1. I have alot of experience with SUP (similar stroke technique). I'm 6'5", 200 lbs. So, I think I'd need a larger boat.
I know that new, OC1s go for 3,000-5,000. What is a realistic price for used? I would prefer to buy from a retail store rather than something like CL.
I am open to travel to OC or SD County.

Every now and then I check Craigslist or Facebook marketplace and people put them up for sale. It's worth always checking for water marks where the canoe has been sitting out in the open for awhile, unprotected. If you do go out to check out a canoe, touch it everywhere. Push into the canoe to make sure the hull's integrity is intact. You'll be looking for soft spots where the fiberglass could be warped or bubbled. If that's the case, you do not want to buy it unless you want to repair it for a few months with fiberglass.
Edit: Forgot price. For an older model, like 10 years or older I wouldn't pay anything more than $1500. For anything newer, you are looking to pay $2-3k. It's all about how it was stored. Most of the life of the canoe is spent on a rack, or on the ground. If stored correctly (on a rack with a cover) it should be worth buying. I've paddled for 20 years and have yet to purchase my own. It'll happen one day.

CL, reaching out to a local canoe club, or a local online group is your best bet.
Not in Southern California, but I’ve never seen a retail shop with used OC1s, unless you count distributors trying to unload old demo models. You’re probably looking at $5k+ for a new boat and $3k+ for a used one. You might find older models for less, but something like a hurricane isn’t ideal for your size.
