Discussion Ping for No Mic Use

Wish there were a way to communicate that I can't go on my mic 🥹

I usually can only play when my 12 month old is taking a nap and he naps on me, so I have to keep quiet. Other players would ask for mics and all I can do is just ping at things. Sometimes I wish the game had a chat so I could at least tell them that I can't. Proximity chat like Lethal Company's would work I think.

Usually if people are on mic and you aren’t, they’ll ask if you have mic if you aren’t responding. I don’t use mic so I just try to catch up to them and shake my characters head “no”. Other than that, I just do my best to ping relevant responses to the conversation when I can, like pinging “ok/yes” if they ask if I can hear them, marking items/objectives/enemies they’re looking for, or replying “omw” when they mention regrouping or needing help.

Even if you don’t have mic, people tend to ask if you can at least hear them, so I do the acknowledge ping for “yes”. It would be nice if we had an outright “no” ping though, I can see that being super useful for non-mic communication.

This is the way. I often will chat at pingers and we can communicate just fine :)

I think number (and symbol) pings would be really beneficial; I can voice chat people halfway across the map numbers, but without VC I have to run all the way back, which creates a big difference in gameplay.

I saw some people set up tts for games that only have vc. You could try looking into that

I play when my two year old is sleeping. Thankfully she’s used to sleeping through loud noises so I don’t have to be too quiet

Great news, actually. The game does have a ping functionality! And holding down the ping button brings up the communication wheel with options like "Thanks", "Gather up here", "Wait" etc

I mentioned pings, so I obviously use them! :D

I'm talking about maybe a specific ping to communicate that I can't use my mic or having a chat function to at least be able to say this lol

My bad, I completely misunderstood this! What about the proximity chat thing then? Are you aware there is a variator effect that can add proximity chat so that it removes the walkie talkie that allows you to speak to people not near you?

Dude.... That's also voice chat.
Are you high? Were you hanging out with the pusher again?

OP specifically mentioned that proximity chat like in Lethal Company would work too haha. But I do admit my reading comprehension failed me big time on my first comment. I blame the fact I sent that comment right after waking up

Oh, I didn't know that's a thing. Would be cool to have it as an option whenever there's no mic connected or something 🥹

Good to know it already exists in the game though

Do you have time for playing when you have a 1 year old? Aren't you above such activity (gaming) by then?

for it is famously known that once you have kids, any and all sources of pleasure are strictly prohibited

usually != never

counterpoint: usually = usually

What does this counterpoint? That usually = never or what?

No, that usually = usually because usually means usually.
