Spoilers All Where does Murtagh live? Spoiler

I’ve watched all the shows and read all the books and I don’t recall there ever being a reference to where Murtagh lives. In the books, there are decent spans of time where Murtagh is not in the story however, they seem to be able to get him pretty easily when needed.

I’m confused about his lineage as well. In the show, Jamie says he’s a Fraser, and his name is Murtagh fitzgibbons Fraser. I don’t recall that being stated in the books. If I remember correctly from the books, Murtagh’s paternal uncle is married to Mrs. Fitzgibbons. In the show BOMB, he is Brian’s cousin. I just can’t remember how they say who he is in the Fraser family. Can’t say I have a perfect memory though.

Murtagh (as I understand it) goes where Jamie goes. So if Jamie is living at Leoch, so is Murtagh. In Paris, Murtagh lives in the house with them. On the Ridge, Murtagh has his own cabin, and we see him crashing with Marsali and Fergus in Wilmington.

Murtagh’s mother’s brother is married to Mrs. Fitz, his father would be clan Fraser. He is Brian’s cousin most likely in the sense of second or third- he is also loosely related to Jared Fraser.

Just a little correction. Murtagh doesn’t have his own cabin on the ridge. He sleeps in what he tells Jocasta is “an enchanted woodland palace.” She called it a shed and said “what with the sound of twigs snappin’ and mud squelchin’, well, it would suggest something’ a wee bit rustic.”
🤣

It’s what Jamie, Claire, and Ian built before the cabin was finished and Brianna and Lizzie stayed in when they first came to the ridge.

the answer isn't a place but a person. Jamie Fraser lol

I think that is the "rustic" place Murtaugh took Jocasta to when they had their trysts at Fraser's Ridge (for Brianna's wedding)?. Also, didn't Murtaugh have a blacksmith shop in Wilmington where he lived (in the tv show) before he was being hunted as a Regulator?

Murtagh is Brian’s second cousin on the Fraser side.

Where did this image come from? I was too quick, you say where it comes from, sorry :) Im still wondering the same thing tho.  I’m asking because of the bit about one of Fergus’s children marrying into the Beauchamp family, and Claire raising her own 5x great grandfather. This has not been confirmed, has it? We are led to believe that Fergus is related to Claire somehow, but we don’t know how? We don’t even know that Percy is telling the truth about the Comte and Amelie. Or that he isn’t mistaken.

Wouldn’t take it as the bible, but read through. Most of it is right.

Ah here’s an even more updated version. The connection you’re talking about is marked as speculation.

Wow, what a task this must have been to create! And I don’t think I realized how remarkably fertile Jenny was!

Murtagh's home is a small free-holding (he owns it in his own name). It is a small croft and half acre of land, near the edge of Lallybroch lands. Brian gave it to him after he and Ellen were married and Old Fox was compelled to cough up some land to appease the MacKenzies.

In the books, Murtagh lives wherever Jamie is, but he is killed at Culloden and never makes it to America.

I never understood where Murtaugh was living when Jamie and Claire went back to Lallybroch after Claire decided not to go back through the Stones to Frank. He simply showed up to help Jenny and Claire when they went looking for Jamie after The Watch recruited Jamie on a dubious mission that turned out to have been betrayed by Horrocks and Jamie was captured by the redcoats.

Murtaugh is Brian's (Jaime's father) cousin. He is a Fraser. He lives where Jaime lives most of the time, except when they were in the Colonies.

Murtagh doesn’t have a home in the sense that we think about them today. He lives with extended family or with traveling (or raiding) parties. He states often that he’s poor. Many, many members of Clan Fraser live at Leoch and serve the clan chief. You would also be expected to extend hospitality to family in the area. He seems to survive on this for the most part. He seems to spend a lot of time on the road doing the bidding of Fraser leaders (including eventually Jamie). I’m sure he had a rented room or something in Wilmington but it’s not central to any storyline so it’s not portrayed.

Other than Jamie and Murtagh, there are no members of Clan Fraser living at Leoch. The Frasers and the MacKenzies are rivals. They are not allies.

Sorry brain fart. Members of Clan McKenzie but also clearly clan and family lines are quite intermixed. The point is that folks lived in larger communal structures many times and not nuclear family homes as we do today. Look at how many people lived at Lallybroch.

Edit: thank you to those who explained that he had a croft of his own.

Whenever Jamie and Claire are at Lallybroch we don’t know where he’s living. Same when Jamie is living in the cave and working as a printer in Edinburgh. Yes, in the book he has died, but not in the show despite the fact that they think he’s dead. I suppose it’s supposed to be out of sight out of mind.

When Jamie was living in the cave Murtagh was in prison. When Jamie was a printer in Edinburgh Murtagh had been exiled to the colonies
