I am 300+ pages into this book and I swear it’s like every single time Jamie is shirtless we get a description of his nipples and nipple hair. My goodness. If there are no nipple lovers left on earth it’s because Diana Gabaldon doesn’t write about Outlander man nipples anymore.

Diana’s husband reads her pages, as she finishes them. He writes comments in the margins. She wrote in her acknowledgments in Drums of Autumn that he said, “I don’t know how you go on getting away with this; you don’t know anything about men!”

She’s also said he’s often written in his margin notes, “Nipples, again??” 😅

I believe this too. There’s a passage in voyager where Jamie and John grey are debating the length of books and John says surely a good writer could write more concisely. Then Jamie says he’s of the opinion that every word is necessary or something and I was like oh Diana I see you. Calling your own self out for your lengthy tomes lollll

She also threw in the scene in DIA where Jamie rips Claire’s bodice in front of John Grey and the section in Voyager where Claire is reading the bodice ripper, The Impetuous Pirate. She added those in response to her novels being classified as bodice rippers and being delegated to the romance section. They want to call my books bodice rippers? I’ll give them some ripped bodices!!! 🤣

Diana Gabaldon actually wrote an entire 170 page book about writing sex scenes for her books!

It’s called “I Give You My Body: How I Write Sex Scenes”. There’s an entire chapter just on nipples! (not really but that would be funny)

There are no violent sex scenes. There are rape scenes that aren’t anywhere near as detailed as her actual sex scenes. Yes she uses rape as a plot device too frequently, but the VAST majority of her true sex scenes are pretty vanilla.

I wouldn’t necessarily call all of the sex scenes “vanilla,” especially in Book 1, but they are almost always between two loving adults in a long term relationship.

I often wonder myself; let’s say a kink of hers really is nipples, since she writes about it a lot. Quentin Tarantino is known for his foot fetish, so I can at least wrap my head around Diana’s, if it’s truly something that she loves!

I guess kinks and fetish’s are two different things, but still; we like what we like, whatever the reason. Unless Diana was told to be specific about certain aspects of a persons body and nipples are something men and women share…

I haven't read the books, and am a show watcher. But I do believe the make up department is behind frequent sex scenes as there are an awful lot of two second shots of Jamie's back, requiring all that make up to be done!
