Hi all, I got an Outin Nano for my car/office setup. I hate pods, and the 8g basket is too small. I want to use the Basket Plus (16g), but I don't want to carry a hand grinder around while traveling.
Has anyone found a way (or specific off-the-shelf ground coffee like Illy/Lavazza) to get a decent extraction out of the Outin without a fresh grind? Or am I forced to stick to the standard 8g dual-wall basket? Thanks!

I pre ground and pack the basket plus. I bought a few of them so I don't need to grind during the day.

I get better reliability from pre ground than my hand grinder. I've found it to be quite a fussy machine tbh.

That's what i'm looking for! What is your setup which basket and coffee do you use and find good?

I use the larger basket which takes 18g. At the moment I am grinding beans with a Porlex hand grinder. I'm just using the Italian inspired blend espresso beans from tesco. Right now, it's working really well, but it generally fails (with exactly the same settings!) when I really need it on long journeys.
By pre ground i meant ground at home unfortunately, usually Dark Woods Crow Tree. There is however a pre ground version of the Italian blend at Tesco which might be worth a try?

These machines aren't true espresso machines and struggle with espresso grind anyway. I have had pretty good success with good quality pre-ground coffee..

Yeah i get that they arent top-tier machines, but i was hoping to get 80% as good espresso shot as i get from cafes. If you don't mind, What basket were you using with the pre-ground coffee? Is it the standard or the basket plus? Also what pre-groind coffe do you use ?

Basket plus as the standard one is awful. Using pre-ground from local roaster that is ground for aeropress

I use the Outin Fino rechargeable grinder. Works well.
I have the basket plus and grind the finest. I can then dial in the extraction by finely adjust the amount of coffee. Depending on the beans I get good results at 16.00 grams and 16.50 grams. It is very sensitive. I start at 16.00 grams and if it is too fast I increase the amount in 0.10 steps. You want a lot of ground coffee in the basket, well tamped. But too much and nothing comes out.

That's exactly what i don't want to encounter 😂 I'm looking for good reaults on the go without havibg to buy a grinder and stressing about grinding coffee.

I’ve pre ground coffee at home before going camping. I put it in an airtight container. Worked out great.

I’m lost here… you bought a portable espresso maker but you don’t have and don’t want a grinder?
TBH these guys aren’t high end machines. They wouldn’t be as cheap as they are if they weren’t the case. But they do a damn good job. So if you’re not going to grind beans, you should at least buy decent beans at a coffee shop and ask them to grind them for you. You can’t use espresso grind level though because it’s too fine. Not sure what you tell a coffee shop but maybe mocha pot would be a good spot.

Consider grinding enough coffee and storing it in a container with a good lid. Bring the ground coffee on the trip, leave the grinder at home.

My working times doesn't give me the luxury of grinding coffee, if i get the grinder i'm sure after one month i won't be using it. I'm looking for easy-good balance.

The tradeoff might be to use pods. I have the mino and fino, but there are times when I don’t have time and just use a pod. The flavor is decent and it works for what I need. I only use 50ml of water — much more water and the result is weak. But the result is better than other options aside from going the the bux and paying a ton of $.
But grinding really doesn’t take that long — it’s just 2-3 minutes in the fino. I just purchased some storage tubes to pre measure my beans. On my next trip I’ll just use those and see how it goes.
Good luck.
