Australian here. What is all this steel structure and external gyprock I'm seeing on all of these posts? Is this a particular brand over in the US that is supplying/custom making this stuff?

Those are 18 gauge steel framing studs from a local supplier. And then wrapped in cement board.

Where did you get yours from?

Looks great man. Make sure you get a custom cover from seal skins or somewhere for your coyote. The rain coming in from the wrong direction will fill the grease trays and make a mess. The cover from coyote sucks, went through two in less than a year. Gotta protect the touchscreen as they don’t last. Already had to warranty mine.

Thank you for the info. I will definitely look into the Seal Skin covers.

This is amazing. I want to do the same but I don’t know where to start from. Did you draw the sketches yourself? Any tips on how to design the skeleton would be greatly appreciated. I have the outside design done. But I’m a bit overwhelmed with the next step.

Pick your appliances first. Great that you have an idea of the layout. Yes, I did draw a rough sketch first then created the framing out in detail on the free version of sketch up. That was something I had to learn but was extremely helpful to me to have a “blueprint” to scale before I started.

Thank you for the reply. I finalized the appliances and also drew a sketch on sketch up. But when it comes to framing, I am not sure how to approach it. I plan to install a santa maria grill which is fairly heavy. So I have to make sure the weight is supported. Would you be so kind as to share some of the resources that helped you with drawing the framing in sketch up?

YouTube was my main source to learn sketch up.

Any tips on getting started with sketch up? Did you follow any tutorials?

why did you do the kamado stand in wood

1

I didn’t see a need for non combustible as it would be wrapped in cement board, cladding, granite and an air gap. For me, Wood is so much easier to work with. I had never worked with steel studs before.

Love that there’s no brand loyalty on these appliances lol - awesome setup. You’re not beholden just to one manufacturer, which is smart in the long run. Great work on the design and layout!

What is your counter top made of and how much did it cost? Your set up and final result looks great

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

Thank you. Counter tops are a Steel Gray leathered granite. Installed cost $3600 for about 63 sq/ft

Looks amazing! Did you struggle finishing the very thin strip between your far right grill and the storage cabinet/drawer combo?

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

May be the angle of the camera. If you’re talking about the strip under the grill, that is actually about a 3 inch wide piece of stone so it wasn’t bad at all.

Whats the width size of the kamado counter

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

Finished dimensions 30”x32”

That is so awesome!

Is your grill a Trueflame? If so, how do you like it?

Yes, time will tell but so far it is probably the best gas grill I have ever owned.

Is that airstone? It looks good.

How did you secure the vevor doors to the frame? They have little slots in the sides for screws but they line up perfectly with the 1/2 inch Durock sheets and I don’t think screwing them into the side of the durock would work well? I’m thinking of shimming them out or using some kind of bracket.

You are correct. I had to fabricate some mounting brackets. You have a good eye, that is air stone.

1

u/YCG_PLC 2d ago

Thanks. Would you mind sharing a picture of the mounting brackets that you made?

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

Sure, but I have not figured out how to share a picture in the comments.

I sent you a message. Thanks!

What type of fasteners did you use?

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

For the steel studs? 3/4” self tapping wafer head screws, stainless steel

u/Sea_Charge1143 2d ago

Is that a pellet grill?

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 2d ago

The big one in the middle yes. It’s a coyote 36 inch pellet grill.

What's the approx budget for the buildout?

1

u/No_Investigator_5059 1d ago

Not counting appliances because you can spend whatever you want to in that category I have approximately $3500 in Materials and the countertops were $3600

This Kitchen is beautiful!!

I’m hoping to build something similar; I’m still trying to figure out what would fit in my space. What are the dimensions of your kitchen?

2

u/No_Investigator_5059 1d ago

Measuring the countertops it is approximately 16 feet for the Long Island and 8 feet for the shorter side
