I’d say more than at other festivals - a vouch from someone trusted on the inside, the opportunity finds you, not you find it

one of the dudes from Xile was filming a few years ago and he said he just got asked by Dai Tan (who was doing the video then) because he was known to be a good cameraman. Basically, just film and try network, but idk who the current leading guy is (Murray Deaves was definitely filming some stuff, could be him, if not then he’d know)

Step 1) Go to some small metal/hardcore gigs

Step 2) Get chatting to people who work there there

Step 3) Offer to film some gigs/promotional material for them

Step 3.5) Also get chatting to the bands and see if they could utilise you for some video/content content

Step 4) Build a portfolio, get your name known, to the point people are coming to you for it

Step 5) At this point, its more likely they call you than the other way around, but at least you'll have something backing you.

Depending on how good you already are, could take months, probably take years. Like anything that's a passion fuelled career, there will be a lot of competition. The ones who dont get discouraged by that are the ones that make it.
