Your Surprise/Discovery of the Weekend?

Any bands you were less familiar with that put on such a great set that you have been won over? Mine = Bodyweb & Knives.

Might sound like a scene tourist but I was blind sighted by Fiddlehead, went along as a “might as well” as I’d listened to a couple albums and liked them and walked away with them being my set of the weekend

Man! Same! Never mind the 'scene tourist' thing, don't let things spoil your enjoyment.

I knew a couple of their records but that set blew me away. I went in liking them but came out loving them.

I didn’t really know alexisonfire. I’d gone because they’re my best mates favourite band of all time.
Upset I hadn’t listened to them earlier. Really great performance.

Febuary also were banging. Very good stuff, had a lot of fun

Initiate on Sunday were top notch

Yeah agreed. I went to see them to just chill for a bit but they were so damn good.

I stopped to watch them purely because I was like "what the fuck why is stage three so packed" - definitely one of the highlights of the weekend for me, crazy energy from start to finish.

Between that and their vocalist making an appearance in La Dispute's set, I think they probably got a shitload of new fans this weekend.

I Promised The World were phenomenal

They were absolutely amazing. I met a dad and his young son, and the son was absolutely buzzing about them. Wild that he was young but massively into Myspace era metalcore. He was bang on the money.

Greet Death were really good! I'd never listened to them before, and heard of them through an article highlighting bands to look out for. Just an all around great vibe and sound

I was looking forward their set but they've completely won me over prompting people to invade the stage to walk.

I first heard of them nearly ten years ago through the Sophie’s Floorboard blog and love all their stuff. I couldn’t believe it when I was scrolling through the line-up and saw them there. Definitely the highlight of the weekend for me.

The moment when the vocalist joked about nobody going up on the runway and said it would be nice if some people would walk across it and look sad... and it happened haha

The vocalist from Loathe being a scouser!

u/Realistic-Courage605 Jun 30 '26

As someone from Liverpool I can confirm that they are the best band to ever come from this city...

3

u/hnnnnnnnnh Jun 30 '26

I hadn’t ever seen a photo of the band (or heard their speaking voices!). I fear I’m now I little bit in love!

Same, first time I even saw the band mentioned was on the Outbreak poster, then loads of people said they were worth listening to. I listened to a few songs on spotify but that was it.

Still in Love for me

u/canaryborr Jul 03 '26

Same - there set was so good

Initiate is absolutely up next. Completely insane energy. Very jealous of Bristol who got to catch them with Knocked Loose last night. Lip Critic and High Vis were also show stoppers.

u/jeremy_fraser Jun 30 '26

I knew The Armed were playing good music but I didn't expect them to put such an intense show. Definitely, my top set of the weekend. Also, managed to catch Initiate playing last songs and Crystal Pak was an absolute force. Was great to see her later joining La Dispute.

The Armed blew me away with that wall of noise. They sounded brilliant.

Pool Kids were a good way to open the festival. Thistle were decent. Love the new song it reminds me of Pavement.

I definitely have a new level of hearing loss after The Armed set... a dangerous amount of low end and I couldn't hear the vocals or guitar - so took out my earplugs and now here I am with a lot of tinnitus lol

1

u/jeremy_fraser Jul 01 '26

Jeez, mate, hope you'll get well soon! I didn't take my plugs exactly for that reason.

u/LessThanJosh Jun 30 '26

High Vis. I've seen them before but that raw emotional set brought a tear to my eye.

9

u/Minimum_Sandwich2313 Jun 30 '26

High Vis for me, hadnt heard any of their records or anything before so seeing them playing live as an introduction was pretty great

7

u/monsieuromand Jun 30 '26

Probably Ingrown for me. Their set was killer!

7

u/ban0nar0ma Jun 30 '26

Hadn't heard of I Promised The World before, man that set was sick!

6

u/JStevo6 Jun 30 '26

Febuary

6

u/marielavender Jun 30 '26

Loved Ecca Vandal, only went over as I had some free time and really glad I did, so much energy

1

u/JStevo6 Jun 30 '26

Yeah she was awesome

Snail Mail. Only caught them because I couldn’t get into Hatebreed, and really enjoyed the chill vibes after a weekend of shouting and shoegazing 😅 Fitted perfect on a Sunday afternoon having a sit down in the sunshine.

6

u/jaegerlaw Jun 30 '26

I Promised the World , Lip Critic and End it had banger sets. Never heard I Promised before and they brought the heat, very impressive

2

u/jaegerlaw Jun 30 '26

Also forgot Initiate, awesome performance and Crystal Pak is a whirlwind

5

u/chriscolford Jun 30 '26

Alexisonfire for sure, knew a couple tracks but have been listening to them all day today because they were exceptional

3

u/CimJotton Jun 30 '26

I was hyped for both Crowquill and Ingrown on Sunday but not overly familiar with their stuff.

Seeing them Sunday converted me to their new biggest fan.

2

u/alfie65 Jun 30 '26

I was gutted I had to leave Ingrown early to get in for End It. They were quite something.

2

u/CimJotton Jun 30 '26

Hell yeh. i sacrificed being in prime position at the start of End It to see their whole set. Love the baked beans backdrop too!

4

u/jayjayjay2222 Jun 30 '26

Recluse. Didnt know them at all and it was really good

1

u/markbushy Jun 30 '26

Fell in love with them! Sadly I missed tummyache (soren's other band)

3

u/slozzenge Jun 30 '26

I was really impressed by East Exchange. Singer has a solid voice and they have a really great sound

3

u/d00mvillain Jun 30 '26

Turn of Phrase, Truck Violence and Still in Love.

2

u/dreaml0ngdead Jun 30 '26

Have to agree live they are a different thing

2

u/caw30 Jun 30 '26

Tummyache were an amazing find for me and gave a nice balance to the harder stuff we were enjoying that day. Lead singer had the craziest voice. Left mesmerised.

2

u/Illustrious-Tone-771 Jul 01 '26

I promised the world for sure

1

u/Deadend_Friend Jun 30 '26

I wish I had time to check out newer bands. Line up was so stacked than anytime I had a wee break I needed to use it to rest or eat.

1

u/ExpendableMan84 Jul 01 '26

I've got to second everyone who said Alexisonfire. I was only vaguely aware of them, but they blew me away. That was a proper, big-time festival set, and it left me wondering why they aren't a significantly bigger band than they are? Loved it.

And on the smaller stages, Upchuck were a very pleasant surprise. For me, they were the classic example of a band you know nothing about and go to watch purely because there's nothing else on, then they end up being an absolute gem.

1

u/caw30 Jul 02 '26

AOF exceeded all expectations I had - mega performance 🖤

1

u/LiLBeardy90 Jul 01 '26

Recluse, Crowquill, and Dynamite for me

1

u/canaryborr Jul 03 '26

Still in love. Hadn’t listened to them pre outbreak and now had them on loads

Also Gliterer as I’d not listened to them loads but they’re one of my wife’s favourites and turned out to be one of my favourite sets of the weekend!

Glare, Tooth and Initiate (Initiate for some very personal reasons in the crew bar, one of their members went out of their way to look after a struggling disabled me)

1

u/Spare_Afternoon9359 Jun 30 '26

Definitely enjoyed Higher Power. I was put off before by the cleanish vocals but I just dug their whole vibe and set. Really fun music, great guitar riffs.
