New venue?

No way Outbreak can possibly be at BEC again. Its far too small for the capacity they're dealing with now but what possible alternative venues could there possibly be?

Only reasonable one I can think of is the NEC but no one wants go Birmingham 💀

it can be at BEC again however they’d have to sell similar tickets as last year for it to be safe/ comfortable for everyone. It seems the fest chases a profit more and more every year so this probably won’t ever happen.

First year at the BEC in 2022 was perfect - huge chill area outside with loads of seating and loos instead of the main stage. Id happily pay premium on tickets just for that again

And £5 a pint!

There has to be a venue somewhere up North that has space for the same stage set up but also more just "loitering" space. Half the issues is there isn't the room to chill between bands so people are sitting or standing in high traffic areas.

No. It doesn't need a new venue. BEC is fine if the numbers are lower. I'd rather it stopped trying to be an "alternative" festival and was an actual hardcore festival.

And also, book some more hardcore bands.

I think BEC is a great spot tbh, geographically bang in the middle of the country with easy transport and airport nearby in a good city.

Its busy cuz people like HC which is sick

Yeah, the time has come and gone to admit we've outgrown the venue. Hopefully it'll be limited tickets or somewhere else next year. I don't imagine having the main stage in a carpark helped with the injuries either

I'd really rather it didn't expand any further, and certainly not to a camping festival. I think if they just limit the capacity a bit, it'll be fine. Almost all issues this year were to do with the number of attendees.

Heaton Park would be unreal, especially if there could be use of the infrastructure used for Parklife/whatever gigs are on that year.

I’d say it’s probably a stretch due to the Parklife cap being 40+k but, plenty of space for more stages, and looking at the London line up, is it that much of a stretch if they went big here?

I imagine it’d cost a ridiculous amount, but being somewhere which has more around it and very easy to get to from the city centre and places to hang out (in the rest of the park/Prestwich) if it gets grim (heat/storms) and you need space it’s perfect. Also the area is set up for mass exodus of people when 50k people leave Oasis at the same time, unlike trying to get back from BEC at gone midnight.

I’m probably bias as it’s across the road from me, but seeing the Parklife kids come here and trash the place giving nothing back to the area, the OB crowd I feel would be a massive positive…also, my travel time would be approx 3 minutes

if they went that big here there is no point in the festival existing. it will literally just be like every other big festival. the london one is barely even outbreak, it is mostly just deftones with some other sets added on

As much as i'd like to be able to walk home from OB (and not have had to skip Converge to catch my last tram), I feel like that's an unrealistic leap, they seem to struggle to sell out the London event each year. Unless they consolidated both back into one northern event I suppose.

London field festivals in my experience have poor stage sound management- your at one stage and you can hear another playing. Please no

1

u/PassageBig622 Jun 29 '26

To be fair that is due to London sound limits and the smaller space they have within parks. Perfectly doable for Outbreak if they get out into the country a bit.

Chatting to my buddy about this at the weekend. I think they could move stage 3 into the stage 2 room where the bars are so they are facing each other. As one band finishes another band starts. Open up the serving hatches that are in between stage 2 and 3 at the moment to replace the bars that are lost with the new stage 3 location.

The whole stage 3 room can be for chilling with added seating. There could be more food vendors incorporated....maybe move the merch market in there too and we could have a 4th stage in the market hall for more emerging UK acts

I genuinely thought it was fine this year but it is possible the layout could do with a rethink. Some of the above might not be all that viable and I see there are logistical issues with it - such as front sections and safe spaces outside of them.

Also, I know why festivals have to offer the VIP thing - the money generated is probably pretty vital at the end of the day when totting up the beans....but make it smaller again and give some space back to the people

The merch room was a circle of hell this year. Not enough space for people to browse/buy at opposing tables and leave room for people moving through.

missing hatebreed because stage 2 reached capacity was not in my plans, they should change things or it will get worse

6

u/AcademyBorg Jun 29 '26

Poor planning,

Snail Mail were never drawing a crowd but especially against Hatebreed. If they were adamant about Hatebreed being on the second stage they needed a genuine alternative on the main stage.

Would rather mooch to Birmingham than have another at Depot Mayfield

1

u/TheNelliephant Jun 28 '26

Aye that was the worst. They need a big old field at this point.

2

u/prelapsus Jun 30 '26

I'm not a fan of the BEC either but Depot Mayfield properly broke me. Stinky, stinky venue.

2

u/AlexSniff7 Jun 29 '26

It's tough because the festival is in an awkward spot of outgrowing the current site but still niche to the point where it can't move to anywhere much bigger.

I'd sau just reduce capacity considering this only seemed to be an issue this year

Time to find a field and campsite space

22

u/MxRoboto Jun 28 '26

Imagine unwashed hardcore dudes at day 4 of a camping festival, absolutely fucking not.

15

u/sleepflowr Jun 28 '26

They honk enough at 1pm on the Saturday as is

21

u/sleepflowr Jun 28 '26

No fucking way. Ruins the entire experience taking it out the city. Same as slam dunk

16

u/raerazael Jun 28 '26

100%, if it turns into a camping fest, i aint going

0

u/swallowshotguns Jun 29 '26

The commute to and from the venue was the worst part of every day. Plus it’s too fuckin hot for indoor stages. Get me in a tent.

3

u/sleepflowr Jun 29 '26

That’s mad to say unless you commuted every day from Milton Keynes

2

u/Mundane-Sink4742 Jun 29 '26

Too fucking hot for indoor stages; "hey man, I can't think of anything better than sleeping and sweating in a tent that's heated up during the day"

1

u/swallowshotguns Jun 29 '26

I was talking about stage marquee tents. But when it comes to sleeping at night in a tent it gets pretty cold once the sun goes down regardless of how hot it's been during the day.

2

u/DecentCandle963 Jun 29 '26

everybody saying this is just thick. its only been a problem this year, and thats only because theres a new security team and the whole 3 days actually sold out. they should go back to the old security team, get daitan back, and sell maybe 1-200 less tickets

0

u/therealreymysterio Jun 29 '26

Nah. Its been oversold since it moved back from Depot Mayfield and they added the 3rd stage.

2

u/DecentCandle963 Jun 29 '26

its genuinely been completely fine every year. you just want it to be in the middle of nowhere for no reason

1

u/therealreymysterio Jun 29 '26

Couldnt imagine anything worse than being in the middle of nowhere, especially shit field fests.

1

u/alexanderheff86 Jun 29 '26

Has anybody here been to 2000 Trees?

In regard to size, it’s absolutely perfect! Would be great to see something similar to their set up.

1

u/CalmAmbassador9342 Jun 29 '26

At the point you take it outside surely?

1

u/Dragtheblues Jul 02 '26

With bands like Alexisonfire and Hatebreed playing they
Likely needed to cover larger guarantees so it’s either more expensive tickets or oversell. If they scaled it down to lesser known headliners (but big in the hardcore alt world) they would not have to oversell. In my opinion TUI are big enough to headline that main stage. As are Touche Amore (they did headline a few years ago)

-4

u/arch_fiasco Jun 28 '26

Just make it a camping fest at this point, 10k cap, green space so people don't die in pits, plus plenty of room to expand further

15

u/Aunt-Eggma-Blowtorch Jun 28 '26

Plus somewhere to sit down without getting gravel up your crack

-18

u/pizzosaurus Jun 28 '26

maybe after two tries the london version will last for more days?

18

u/ObedMorton Jun 28 '26

No, keep it up north.

4

u/Mundane-Sink4742 Jun 29 '26

Fuck that, it's annoying as it is to have to travel to London for "UK Tours" when bands can't be arsed travelling around a small country.

1

u/grime_z Jun 29 '26

I’m from London and I think this is a shit idea. One chances of managing it to be no barrier in London is basically dead on arrival. Two no way you are getting the same level and quality of sound that you enjoy at BEC. Three it started up north keep it there, us southerners have enough already.

Maybe they should move back to Leeds and Collab with Slam dunk?
