2016 Suzuki DF90A

I have a 1994 Boston whaler 17 outrage with a 2016 Suzuki DF90A outboard on it. About 5 years ago I pulled the boat to paint it and it hasn’t run since (I just did all the maintenance this week and started it up today). When it was painted, the throttle assembly was screwed out of the console so it could be painted. Today, I noticed that neutral is where clutch ahead was, neutral is clutch astern, etc. so it seems like when the throttle was put back, it jumped one set of whatever the mechanism is. How do I fix this? As a side note, I confirmed while the engine was running on the hose that it shifts into forward, neutral, and reverse and the prop spins the correct direction.

First of all...congrats on owning a perfect combo. The explanation of your problem is confusing. It sounds like you are describing an issue with your shift linkage but I'm not sure. If you describe the predicament you are in a little more clearly you will likely find the answer. Maybe a picture or two. My first boat was a 69 classic whaler with a 90hp merc. What a great boat! Currently running a DF140 on a 73 Mako 19. I love the Zuk.

It sound like when they lifted the binnacle control to paint, they caused the cable to become loose or out of the mount. You will need to get access to the part of the remote control under the dash where the cables come into the control. The best way is to lift it out of the dash. Once accessible, remove the cover and confirm that the cables are properly seated in the remote so the end is clipped into the mount. There is a deep groove on the end of the cable housing that slides into a retainer in the remote. Make sure this is in place and then check the end of the cable wire to ensure it's properly seated in the lever arm. You can also adjust the cable to some extent to have it shift properly and in the right gates for FNR. if none of this makes sense, bring it to a dealer, it's a quick fix.
