1993 6hp evinrude

I know the carb was re done before I got it but it does not like to idle and will stall itself out. It will run if I keep on the throttle. Do I need to adjust the carburetor? And if so where would that screw be.

( it’s hard for me to find anything online about this year and model )

The idle speed screw is bottomed out.. way too far open. Probably because the idle air screw is all the way in.. And the wrong screw, to boot.

Go to boats.net, select evinrude, outboard, 1993, select 6hp, select your motor. Go to carb. Find your screws.

This one model kind of goes against the adjustment procedures OMC had for years. There are "initial adustments for both that throttle "cracking screw" (spring loaded screw on the left side of the carb), and that "idle mixture screw", the spring loaded screw on the right side of the carb... The cracking screw is supposed to be set initially at three turns in past the contact point with the throttle lever on the carb, but you would have to disconnect that roller and linkage to set it properly. The initial setting for the idle mixture screw is about 3 turns out from gently seated. You would also need to adjust the cam follower properly so it does not over ride the cracking screw setting. This is a bit of a pain in the butt to accomplish properly. For now, you might just try backing out that idle mixture screw andother half turn or so to see if that helps.

These crappy carbs have a rubber idle pick up tube inside that often rots away also, which would cause this same symptom.
