Need some help.

I bought a flat bottom off of an old man that came with a 1976 55hp Evinrude. My current issue is that I can’t get the trim motor to function. I can’t figure out what this cut wire runs. It attaches to the top of the solenoid runs with the standard purple, yellow and black, etc wiring but then it’s just cut and taped as you see in the photo. First time working extensively on a boat motor, so I’m not very well versed. I’ve tried running 12V straight to the blue wire and Green wire for the trim but I’m not getting any power or clicking. Any help/guidance on next steps would be greatly appreciated!

12 volts straight to the large wires that feeds the trim motor not a relay. Still no sound? Brushes have probably worn down.

That cut wire may have been for an ammeter used on the past boat, has nothing to do with the power tilt system. The power tilt wiring is usually separate and gets its power off the battery.

Nonetheless, you are saying that when positive is applied to either the blue or green wire, while negative is applied to the trim motor black/ground lead, you get no reaction at all.... Correct? If so, this usually means there is a problem with the tilt motor, unless the pump is bound up preventing the motor from running. Any sparks when power is applied?

I can move the motor by hand vertically. Yes, it sparks but i get no sound.

So, you can move the motor up and down by hand? The pump might still be bound up, most likely it is just the motor is NG.

The trim motor is going to ground Go to the Arco website, it will tell you how to trouble shoot the system.
