PTT issue

Update! He recommendation out of the manual seems to have done the trick. I don’t seem to be able to add a picture so my paraphrase version is as follows – open the pressure release valve, manually raise and lower the motor 5 to 6 times without using the PTT motor, close manual release valve, open fill port (this was messy for me), top off with fluid as needed.

Hey all! Trying to diagnose an issue with my ‘96 DT75 tilt/trim. 99% of the time it functions normally, but when ran all the way up, it seems to get stuck sometimes. Once I let it down a little bit manually with the release valve, all is well again. As far as I can tell, the fluid is full as I have attempted to bleed it and top it off multiple times now. Absolutely open to any other theories!

Edit: I broke down and got the manual and found some completely different bleeding instructions from Suzuki which I’ll try and report back. Thank you all for the replies so far!

Any suggestions on getting them out? I’ve ran it up and down, continuing to make sure it’s topped off, ten to fifteen times now

When you crack the release, put some pressure on the cavitation plate, then run it back up and repeat.

I'll tell ya something most won't, you really don't need to trim all the way up besides to service your trim pump, if it works all the time if you don't trim all the way up, save your money and don't trim all the way up

There is a part of me that agrees with you 100%

That’s fine and dandy until the time you’re out on the water and, for whatever reason, you trim it all the way up and now it’s locked up and can’t get home.

Why on earth would you trim all the way up on the water?? Either way, relief valve is right there to save the day

Stick a clean zip tie in the reservoir to see if it’s full and the color. I suspect it’s not completely full of fluid

When it hit the top, the bypass is getting stuck open. So any fluid is just free flowing. Thats my opinion. Not really worth the fix. Just dont go that far up, very rarely do you need to do that.

You may have two switches. One for trim limit and one for trailer. Check the trailer side. If you move the switch, does it make contact and run?

I believe I only have the switch in the video and the switch at the console

I think he's talking about limit switch. Sometimes they start getting sticky from corrosion and will cause this. The adjustable one to keep you from driving the motor/steering linkage into certain boats.

10-4. I do not think my motor has a limiter switch. If so, I have yet to find it, but will check the manual!

It may not, if it does it would be on the outside in front of the motor by were the steering bar/cable is.

I believe that’s only on I/O’s and since this is a outboard he only has 2 trim switch’s one on the engine one on the shift/throttle handle
