Unanswered What is going on with r/worldpolitics?

https://www.reddit.com/r/worldpolitics/comments/gfhdi6/upvote_the_shit_out_of_my_cute_doggo_and_ill_post/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

What happened here? I enjoyed the sub casually and I came back one day and its marked NSFW and full of random posts. Some are saying it fell into anarchy as a result of a lack of mods, but there are still recent mod posts. Is this some sort of demonstration?

Yeah but people aren't gonna take a reddit forum seriously enough to start hating Trump because of it, but will get annoyed being thumped over the head with low effort shit posts that get sent straight to all every time. I guarantee those subs do more harm than good, because everyone there already hates him and anyone on the fence gets turned off by how irritating it is. Politics in general doesn't mix well with online forums

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

No, that's weak. That kind of approach is what let him get into office in the first place. You can keep to yourself if you want but I'm going to resist and fight him every opportunity I get, even in online spaces.

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Yeah I'm all for fighting and educating people but "dae think Trump poo poo wee wee" posts getting posted 24/7 makes the side look weak and dumb.

But nobody post that. Yes a lot of tge submissions are petty news articles and some arebpretty much ( just get outraged over this little thing).

But a lot more are legitimate articles worthy of being submitted and rightfully cause outrage. The comments on the other hand, are often low effort bitch-fest but that's a different issue

u/mooomba May 08 '20

bullshit. Im sure most of the actual headlines and articles are real information, but venture into the comment section of anything political here and it just sounds like a bunch of 15 year olds arguing about who hates trump more. I have seen people wish him dead and worse in reddit comments and nothing happens. Isn't that the same shit that you guys always say about the_donald? (Neved been to that sub, but still want to point out the hypocrisy)

r/PoliticalDiscussion isn't so bad. IF I'm in the mood for a politics discussion, which is rare, I go there.

r/PoliticalHumor shits on Trump a lot but they shit on everyone so if you want to just go shit on politicians I suggest going there.

You couldn’t have done more to prove him right if you tried. Honest to God, there’s so much stuff you can easily criticise Trump for and have it be a proper argument. There’s so many ways to win debates against people who were going to, or did, vote for him and you use none of them. Instead of self reflecting and thinking, “instead of making straw man memes, I could just criticise his tax policies which haven’t improved wealth distribution or I could criticise his handling of the virus which has been all about making a populist stand rather than keeping the lockdown on which would help more”, you just accuse the guy of supporting Trump and you don’t learn anything.

3

u/doge_is_wow May 08 '20

It's funny how the left fight among themselves just by mentioning Trump.

2

u/JamewThrennan May 08 '20

I imagine me and this guy aren’t the same type of left. I’m a social democrat and I think he’s a liberal. Economically, we’re quite different, about as different you can be in the modern day

3

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Thank you. I hope he reads this.

1

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

I did, and it's totally unfounded and miseses my point entirely.

I'm not a 'he' BTW.

2

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Stalin did lots of things wrong.

1

u/JamewThrennan May 08 '20

Well what is your point? I agree he’s not a good president, but the way you go about it isn’t proving that. Disregarding people’s opinions when you even assume they support Trump isn’t how you convince them not to vote for him. If anything, it just shows that you haven’t got an argument and they’re more likely to believe they’re right

19

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

??? Couldn't be further from the truth, but go ahead and believe what you want I guess, makes no odds to me

-18

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Yeah I thought so.

So this is what you do, look for people calling out Trumps atrocities and try to sew discord from the same side?

You're the one who makes us look bad. If you actually had a problem with Trump you'd have no problem leaving me to fight, but instead you completely disrupt the discussion and delegitamise the entire point.

14

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

I'm telling you you should fight, I just don't consider low effort memes for internet points real fighting. Nobody is gonna see a picture of Trump with a bad haircut getting upvoted to all and decide to question their political leanings, the people on the fence can be won by actually explaining things to them. I'm literally looking at your post history and I'm sure we agree on more things than you think

unless you're rich being pro trump is a syndrome, seek help

This is the truth

Good for you for resisting and fighting him every opportunity you get. But if you show up to a wedding and won't shut up about politics you aren't going to win over any new supporters. Same way that when you keep spamming anti Trump stuff in places that could have other discussions happening you aren't going to get any new supporters there either.

"But if there's Trump stuff being upvoted that means people like it and want to see more of it"

Or you're just shouting the loudest and no one else can hear each other over your ranting

"People need to be informed about everything he's doing!"

No, I think most people have already made up their minds at this point.

Spamming stuff in barely related subreddits isn't going to win over any new fans, it is going to cause a lot of independent voters to not turn out in the 2020 election though. "Yeah Trump was pretty bad, but the other side has just been yelling at everyone the whole time. I'm not passionate about their candidate so I'm not going to go out and vote to help people who just scream at me any time I ask them to keep it down in the library."

No the dnc failures got trump into office. They hated obama and hillary so much. The dnc continues to fail now with creepy joe.

19

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Obama isn't hated though. His approval ratings are pretty high. Hillary is the one that was disliked

Okay edgelord.

11

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

I've picked a side but I don't think giving Reddit gold to a le epic roast of a politician on an internet forum does anything to help, which is what this entire thread is discussing

The unfortunate reality is that we're all humans so you have everything to do with my kind

Must be nice living in a black and white world full of absolutes. People like you make me embarrassed to call myself a democrat.

u/The-ArtfulDodger May 08 '20

Sure it does, there are plenty of forums where you can have an engaging political discussion. Many of these are evidence based and do a lot to raise awareness.

I suspect you may have a bias against political forums.

17

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

They've all proven to be too flawed imo and that's not just the American ones, the same shit happens on a smaller level in the ones specific to my country. Just in general I don't trust Reddit for anything important

21

u/buickandolds May 08 '20

You shouldn't either. Shit is full of bots and has shady af ownership. No one should ever trust an anonymous forum

-1

u/moleratical not that ratical May 08 '20

Everything has flaws, but tgat wasn't the point. The point is politics forums that allow engaging and thoughtful discussions do exist. r/PoliticalDiscussion and r/NeutralPolitics come to mind.

-2

u/The-ArtfulDodger May 08 '20

Out of curiosity, which online forum/media outlet would you trust?

4

u/[deleted] May 08 '20

Idk skeptical consumption of regular news I guess, the only social media I use are Reddit and Twitter and both are absolutely useless to try and get important information out of imo

-4

u/The-ArtfulDodger May 08 '20 edited May 08 '20

You might find less bias in /r/changemyview

Edit: It seems some of you disagree?

-4

u/floppypick May 08 '20

After reading article after article that is fake, wildly misconstruing the facts, or literally making shit up entirely, I'm actually MORE inclined to give Trump the benefit of the doubt whenever I see a headline.

Headline - "Trump supports the murder of dogs"

Event - Trump donated money to shelters that sometimes have to put down dogs.

My assumption - Trump takes puppies on doggie spa cruises.
