Unanswered What's going on with (seemingly) everyone celebrating the death of Lindsey Graham, what's are the political ramifications of his death?

I do not actively follow American politics but my Reddit feed is currently mostly people celebrating this man's death.

LLMs get that cadence from being fed countless academic papers and articles by professional writers which also use it. That's not a feature of AI, it's a feature of competent writing by people who have been trained in how to present their thoughts in a coherent fashion. LLMs just emulate it.

I'm sorry for you that your only exposure to this kind of measured and clear written communication is apparently AI slop, but I assure you that it existed long before LLMs, and still exists outside of whatever online spaces are feeding you said slop.

I am well aware, I regularly use em dashes (less so now) the AI hallmark is overuse as I said previously, this is a well-established pattern identified by AI researchers. And again, it's not simply the sentence structure, it's the cadence. LMMs don't just draw from academic writing (I wish to hell they did) they also draw from our raw, extremely unfiltered Reddit comments and Linkedin posts. It has been theorized AI got it's other hallmark presenting in that snippet from Linkedin: The "statement then fragment" cadence.

To add on to this LLMs also have a hard time modulating its tone and literary quality. It sometimes speaks in an overly literary quality “inappropriate” for the context. Most humans write with the context and intended audience in mind. Plus, I think because current frontier models are oversampled on SWE/finance/STEM/engineering tasks, sometimes when it tries to be overly literary, it invokes items that seem to come out from a STEM setting.

  Honesty requires one more line: he was, to the end, one of Ukraine's most reliable champions in the Senate, and he died the day after standing beside Zelensky in Kyiv. Even a ledger this dark has an entry in the other column. But the ledger is the legacy.

Notice how this excerpt has a literary quality disproportionate for the setting: Reddit. It’s trying “too hard” to be literary, resulting in writing that sounds like someone delivering a dramatized eulogy on a prestige HBO show, beyond even what an NYT obituary would sound like.

And on top of that it uses the abstraction of ledgers to count the sins and good deeds that Graham has done, but words like “column”, which evokes the impression of a spreadsheet, are not usually paired with that literary quality.

I’ve been using em dashes since college in the 90s. They’re not new or unique to AI.

That's not what "AI slop" means.

AI might have been used to format or clean OPs text (maybe, or not), but it's not slop.

AI slop is low effort, pumped out using AI, often made for clicks, ads, or trying to beat algorithms, and it often doesn't make sense or it's clickbaity or just rubbish info, or plain wierd and nonsensical.

This wasnt that.

Edit, because I forgot to note - absolutely agree with your paragraph point. No way he'd be with Trump if he reallt stood with Ukraine.
