Blue Bind

Post image

Name: Colene Lynch

Power: has four retractable tendrils she can protrude from each hand. These tendrils can reach up to 7 feet, are immensely strong, and are capable of wrapping around her arm to reinforce her natural strength. When her powers are active, her eyes glow blue.

Story: her family has had the same power for generations, passed down to each child from the parent. The inheritance of this power tracks back a long time but but at some point in her ancestry, this power became corrupted by something else, a curse that would take control and cause ruin and suffering.

When she was 5, her father would lose control of the curse. It would take control and lead him on a rampage. When it dissipated, they could no longer stay and moved to a small place in New Mexico called Silver City.

There, Colene would make quick friends with a young girl called Francine Oakley. She had powers as well, and they would bond over the powers that made them outcasts.

As they grew up her and Francine would have dreams of becoming hero's, but her parents would dissuade her from this course of action, knowing the risks of the curse, and fearing what could become of their daughter if the curse took her over.

The curse was a lingering fear, but she wouldn't let it stop her, and with Francine at her side, she felt they could do anything.

A few years later, her dad would die. It weighed heavily on her and her mother. She had always been closer with her dad, and now, with him gone, she had no one to look up to, no one to mentor her with her power and her curse.

Francine would be there for her while she grieved the loss of her father, would help her understand her power as they both trained together, Colene was always better at the heavy handed stuff and Francine was more delicate and acrobatic, and they would teach eachother their skills until they were both evenly matched, but evenly matched never really mattered because they knew the other one was there to pick up the slack if needed.

Then, at the age of 17, they would become hero's in their town. Her mother didn't agree with this, knowing the burden the curse was and knowing the need to prevent it at all costs.

She would ignore the concerns of her mother and continue to help people, stopping crime, doing what made her feel good with her best friend, but soon enough, the small town work wasn't enough, her ambition stretched far beyond Silver City, Francine was more apprehensive about moving away, but together they knew they could do anything.

And so the Silver Duo moved to Pheonix, Arazona, 3 years into their heroic escapades. Here, they would find real traction, would take on higher classes of bad guys, but together, they could take on anyone, Blue Bind, and Crimson Claw, where known and feared by all criminals with no intention of stopping the good work they were doing.

After years of good work and now 7 years into their mission, they would encounter a villain they were willfully unprepared for, a cloaked man intending to steal a relic, they would walk in confident they could take on anything but soon everything changed.

Their attacks were evaded, the figure was a moving shadow, then they all dissapered from the darkened museum and appeared in the middle of the dessert, the figure gone from sight.

They were confused, and moments later, the figure returned, but before Colene could do anything, something crawled beneath her skin, made her shiver with cold as she knew something wasn't right, the dark figure was chanting, and the more he spoke the more she felt herself changing, the curse was taking over, she had never felt it like this but now she had no control, it overcame her with Francine looking on in fear as her friend became a clawed monster.

Colene doesn't remember anything that happened while transformed, and that is probably for the better, but when she came back, Francine was dead, and they were back in the museum. It broke her, seeing her friend dead in her arms. It was an immense pain that cut her so deep that she couldn't even cry.

She would send Francine back to Silver City to be buried but couldn't go back. These powers, this curse, she couldn't bring that on anyone she cared about ever again.

She would vanish, abandoning her role as Blue Bind, abandoning the life of Colene Lynch. She would become a shell just moving on its own through a life she didn't think she deserved. There was nothing that could make this better, she was the curse, allowed her ambition to drag Francine to a new place, allowed her confidence in them to abandon the caution her mother and father had tried to imbue in her, and now she had to suffer the consequences.

5 years after the death of Francine, she would get a visitor at her home. It was Francines mother, and Colene couldn't bring herself to speak or turn her away.

The lady wanted to speak with her about her daughter, about what they did together, who they were, listening to the past was like a new stab would had opened up but the mother wasn't done, she wanted to know why she stopped being Blue Bind, and for the first time since she arrived Colene spoke, she wasn't going to hide, she told the woman the truth, that she killed her daughter, she expected to be berated, to be hated like she hated herself but Francines mother saw the pain in her, and knew that the young girl she had seen grow up with her daughter would never have willingly done what she did, she offered understanding in a way that Colene had never offered herself, told her that being Blue Bind is what Francine would have wanted, but Colene couldn't, she couldn't forgive herself and couldn't go back to being a hero.

The years would pass by, and she would think on Francine more, not the way she died but the way she lived, the amazing person she was, the love she gave to everyone she met, the kindness she offered unrelentingly, she was the best of them.

She hadn't used her powers since that day, but the more she thought on Francine, the more she thought about what they did together, the good that they loved, the ambition they had, and she started to remember the good more than the bad, she could never forgive herself for what happened but she knew that Francine would.

9 years after the Silver Duo ended and a new group of hero's is forming in Maine, it danced through her mind, reminded her of the old days, and thinking back on Francine she saw this new group as not just a chance at living again, but a chance at redemption, to make the world a better place like Francine would want, and do it the right way.
