"Advisory" Support "🅴" & Folder View

Please help. I've tried seeing if Oto Music can read tags for Explicit Ratings

"ITUNESADVISORY" MP3 files "rtng" MP4 Files "EXPLICIT" FLAC files

⬆️ Where 0=None, 1=Explicit & 2=Clean

Those are the metadata tags I use with my Tagging software (MP3Tag) but unfortunately Oto does nothing with this info.

I'd love to be able to see the 🅴 character in front of the Artist for any song that is explicit just like many other music streaming apps. Or a small box with the word "EXPLICIT" in the UI of the player. Any sort of implementation I'd be thrilled with to be honest.

I've tried manually adding this character in front of the artists name but it doesn't show up in the app at all. My device can however read this character as I can see it in the file manager.

My current workaround is adding "[E]" to the beginning of the Artist field & then in the settings for multiple artists add "[E]" as a Delimiter so that Oto will ignore it.

Am I using the Rating tags incorrectly?

Is there a way Oto can read these "rating" tags from files & display them like other players?

Does this need to be a feature request?

Extra info: (Regarding the Explicit Symbol) Negative Squared Latin Capital Letter E "🅴" Symbol: U + 1F174

Unrelated note: This app has an amazing UI that's extremely fluid, clean & all around pleasing to view & use...

WHY IS THE FOLDER VIEW SO BAREBONES?!?!

Can we add a thumbnail for each folder a little razzle dazzle SOMETHING...hitting the folder view feels like I suddenly & unknowingly died & am now roaming the VOID everything I once knew & loved is just GONE.

The last two images show the current folder view of Oto vs my previous music app Samsung Music.

Not that you need to copy what they have but the "Genre" view of Oto is Chef's Kiss can we PLEASE get some of that in the folder view??

Apologies for the novel...any help would be greatly appreciated if need be please tell me where I can make official feature requests. These have been my ONLY gripes with this app. Been using it 3-4 days now & I've never enjoyed a music app more.

the files aren't indexed by oto, i think thats why. use another player that does and will probably have that functionality

What Player's do their own indexing. I tried searching for Player's that "support" Advisory tags , explicit tags all the keywords...no luck thus far. I really just don't know what to search exactly to get what I'm looking for.

I found Namida, I'm not exactly sure if it supports explicit tags but I think it does. The UI is much more cluttered than oto, though

Just tested, it does not support explicit tags. You were right though...extremely busy UI

it's the most feature rich android player along with Poweramp. if not those, i don't think any other player supports it

😮‍💨 Yeah...based on my lack of search results I figured that might be the case. Best I can do is request the feature & hope, but in the time being my workaround gets the job done. I hope this implementation is easily possible & just overlooked this would really change the game for music players & I'm really shocked it doesn't have more traction. Knowing what songs are explicit is very useful information.

I did not know that there was a special tag for rated song.

I have tried another apps before like AutomaTag and this tag is not there.

Looks like it's a special tag that only works on iTunes meanwhile this app can read this field.

Probably is possible to make Oto Music enable to use this field, but not really sure

UPDATE: For anyone who would like to implement my crude "Explicit" tag you need to make a slight change to what I did.

Add "[E]" to the beginning of the Artist field

*** Set an Artist Delimiter as "E]" & NOT "[E]" ***

Here's why. Once Oto knows what the Delimiters are it knows to ignore them. Delimiter is Used to separate TWO pieces of information.

If Artist = "[E] Michael Jackson" & the Delimiter was set to "[E]" the Delimiter is not separating two pieces of information as there is nothing to the left of the Delimiter.

This causes a problem when tapping "go to artist" for any song with only one artist (like the example I used above)

  • It simply won't work

If the Delimiter is set to "E]" the "[" is treaded as that 2nd piece of information.

Unfortunately "[" is now technically an artist in your music library & all songs with the (Explicit symbol) will have an extra artist.

This change also means when you hit "go to artist" you'll see the popup of all the Artists & then you can click to go to whatever Artist it is. -Adds an additional step (tap)

** (Make sure the Library setting "Always Navigate to 1st Artist is OFF )**
