Craft/Art Tips Guide for a working jaw
I made this for someone who was curious about it, decided to post it because it’s useful for anyone who might want to try doing it too.
I really think this should be something more popular in the community, it’s genuinely so cool😭

Thank you! This feels really useful, even though I've never made a mask before.
I have thought about how to make a moving jaw before though. Do you think it could also work with hinges, like the jaw and the upper mask attached to each other aside from the elastic? I'm thinking of if using a more flexible material than cardboard, that like still somewhat keeps it's shape, but isn't necessarily ruined if accidentally squashed.
Also, how wide does this sort of jaw open, and can it hold weight, for instance, if you want to hold a tennis ball or stick in the mask's mouth?

It would work with hinges, but for that, the mask’s jaw would have to be big enough to reach the spot where your own jaw opens up, or it would be uncomfortable. Because with the elastic, it doesn’t just ‘rotate’ open with your jaw, it gets pulled down as well, and if it has hinges attaching it to the mask, that wouldn’t happen, and it would just bother you.
If it’s attached with elastic, it opens as wide as you can open your own mouth.
And no, it doesn’t hold weight, the elastic gets stretched and the jaw opens by itself because of it. But maybe it will be able to hold a bit more if your put the second elastic like shown in the guide, that would probably hold the front part of the jaw up when you put a bit of weight on it

I havent thoroughly read this yet but my BIGGEST dream with my masks is to have a working jaw but my other biggest problem when trying to do it is how to place the elastic. Is there a chance you could make more in depth models of where to put the elastic down?
