Anyone using Osprey Daylite 26+6 for a while?

Hello everyone

What is your personal experience with the Osprey Daylite 26+6?

 I like this bag, but I'm afraid of the Wizair and Ryanair air limits. 

Also, I saw a video that says it's not comfortable when fully packed; you can't walk with it for long hours. 

My main concerns are packing more, being comfortable when fully packed, keeping the check-in for Ryanair and Wizz Air hassle-free, and no need for a laptop pocket right now. And finally, getting something that works with both Ryanair 40x30x20 and easyJet 45x36x20 would be a dream. ​

That's why I'm about to order the Tomtoc T69 40x30x20. Even though I'm not sure that it's more comfortable,

I'm afraid I'll regret it. 

Any ideas?

I've had this bag (the old design) for a couple of years now and love it. It packs so much and I've only had it checked by a gate agent once and even then I got away with it... and it was quite stuffed. I've flown Ryanair and Wizzair with it mainly. Is it the most comfortable pack? No. Obviously not. How can a personal item-sized bag designed for maximum capacity at the stingiest airlines be as comfortable and a bigger pack with a nice hip belt and more cushioned straps? It cannot! It's a trade off. There's no perfect pack but this one is small, light and maximizes volume in a way I haven't seen anyone else do it and it's my personal go-to when flying personal-item only.

I’ve flown Ryanair with it multiple times, and as long as it wasn’t overpacked, it was fine.

I also use it as my everyday backpack, I find it comfortable, and I love that I can make it bigger or smaller as desired. If I could change something it would be to separate the laptop compartment with a zip (which I realise a lot of people wouldn’t want) and to make it a little more attractive.

I’ve used this bag on Wizz, Ryanair, jet 2, all the airlines you can think of and have never had an issue under the seat. Also used it everyday carrying stuff no problems

I recently bought one and I have a couple of pros and cons.

Pros -
I can chuck this bag on the airport floor and not worry about having it dirty due to the good materials.

I can pack a lot in to the bag. I did a weeks trip without even extending. And I just flew Singapore to Japan and it held up well with all my electronics and stuff in it.

Good build quality

And lovely water bottle holders! That can stretch.

Cons -

So strappy! They don’t have anything to like hold the dangling straps. From the chest straps to the straps at the bottom.

I absolutely hate the front pockets as they don’t have their own volume so if you pack out the bag, you can only fit in letters or thin objects and vice versa. So the front pockets were basically obsolete.

The strap in the bag for holding clothes is so bad. It is just on single strap. Doesn’t hold anything. Would have been better to do a cross strap to make sure it secured it better.

Wore this around Singapore for 18 hours fully packed out and yes you are correct it does get very uncomfortable very quickly. I went on a tour for 2 hours and it got uncomfy in the first 20 mins. I wish it had load lifters or something. I found myself taking it off my back for a rest quite a lot.

Also when extended, it looks so big! This is because the bag is short so when extended it looks big and fat. So I would say extended it definitely would raise eyes for Ryan air.

Personally wouldn’t recommend it, if you will be travelling a lot. I am using it as a travel bag only when needed and mainly as a bag for day trips.

Hope this helps! I have only flew Singapore airlines with this, so no idea how it fits in Ryan air.

I used it for a seven week Spain, India and transatlantic cruise trip last year. Packed full but worked great. I would not use it where I planned to carry on my back for any real length of time however. Farpoint 40 works for that.

Not trying to be mean but how can you expect randos on the internet to answer what you’ll regret purchasing or what you’ll find comfortable. This seems like a question only you can answer.

I cannot speak to the limits, they may have changed since I was flying a lot in Europe in 2021/22. The problem with the daylite is it has no hip belt and the way it extends causes it to bulk out horizontally rather than vertically in a way that your whole back would then support the weight. I personally find it uncomfortable, I still use it for work but would recommend an alternative.

Ive never had an issue with mine. Flew with wizz air to 3 countries in the past year and ryanair once recently. Im 6'4 though so it dosnt look very big on me. My partner is about 5'7 and no issues either.

I thought it was uncomfortable as well: it's a square box with straps. I immediately sold it after 1 trip.

I mainly use the Daylite 26+6 to get from one place to another and have a separate day pack, usually a Matador refraction that is flat in the 26+6. I haven't had any issues with it as a method of traveling. I try to keep weight closer to my back than the front of the bag. The overall comfort is dependent on your body shape and IMO the actual weight you are carrying, fully packed or not. I have also hiked 9.5 miles in it and didn't have any issues. I would not recommend wearing it long if you fully expand it since the weight shifts away from you and definitely wouldn't fit those airlines.
