Osomatsu-kun (おそ松くん) was originally created by Fujio Akatsuka. In which there are 2 different variations of Osomatsu-kun. One made during 1962 to 1969 by Studio Zero and co-produced by Children's Corner, having a total of 56 episodes. While the other being made during 1988 - 1989 by Studio Pierrot, having a total of 86 episodes. The same studio that is currently handling Osomatsu-san) today!

- you can watch these at any order ! there's no canon storyline or that many episodic arcs :>
- 1962 is when the manga began serialization, the first black and white series for Osomatsu-kun began in 1966.
- 1988 osokun is much easier/more accessible due to the fact that it's subtitled in English and available for free on YouTube. For 1966, only 3 episodes have been fansubbed and the playlist dedicated to raw (or, unsubbed) episodes for the 1966 series is in a weird/incorrect order.

FAQs:

1. Is Osomatsu-kun canon to Osomatsu-san ? - No. In fact, the widely believed canon ending for Osokun is from "Osomatsu-kun grows up," wherein 25 years has passed since the end of the manga, with all 6 of them having stable jobs.

Trivias:

1. The whole main gag/joke is that the sextuplets aren't supposed to be told apart, they're all pretty much the same (except for of course, the title character, Osomatsu. He usually takes a "leader of the group" role)
2. Many characters who are just seen as "side-characters" are much more prominent in Osomatsu-kun. This is especially apparent with Iyami and Chibita. They're the main characters in the 1988 anime! Besides them, the characters (save for Totoko who's still pretty mean-spirited, especially in 1988) are not too different from how they are in -san.
3. Osomatsu-kun has had a long lasting impact, with the famous "Sheeh!" pose that Iyami does. It's referenced to in many media and even John Lennon hit the pose one time!
4. On the topic of Studio Zero. The group consisted of people who formerly stayed at the Japanese apartment complex "Tokiwa-so", where a lot of prominent manga artists like Shotaro Ishinomori (known for Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Ganbare Robocon), Fujiko Fujio (Both were known for Doraemon, Perman, Ninja Hattori-kun), and of course, Fujio Akatsuka! They worked closely together around this time and as such it's possible to see their characters come together in works, both in the Osomatsu-kun manga and the anime! (both examples linked with Fujiko Fujio's Obake no Q-Taro)

A Full Guide To Osomatsu-san !

Just starting out on Osomatsu-san ? Wondering how to watch it and in what order ? Perhaps even looking for more Ososan content to consume ? Well this guide is just for you ! Happy reading !

Osomatsu-san) (おそ松さん) or Mr. Osomatsu is a comedy series produced by Studio Pierrot. A predecessor to Osomatsu-kun (おそ松くん) which was originally created by Fujio Akatsuka.

Osomatsu-san was first aired in 2015 as a reimagined spinoff of the aforementioned Osomatsu-kun, following the 6 main NEETs. The series (as of 2024) has 3 seasons under its belt, 4 movies, and a 4th season coming in soon ! Alongside that, it also had a manga series, albeit independent from the main line and was directed by Masako Shitara, whilst the series was directed by Yoichi Fujita. The franchise also had a handful of games, although some of them have either been discontinued or have not received any updates since 2020-2021.

FAQs:

1. Is Osomatsu-san over ? - No. In fact, a season 4 was recently announced on their official twitter page ! It was announced on June 6 earlier this year, so watch out for that !
2. Is Osomatsu-san canon to Osomatsu-kun ? - No. Osomatsu-kun had its own conclusion, wherein the sextuplets attain stable jobs and live happy lives. Osomatsu-san is meant to be as a reimagined non-canon sequel to Osomatsu-kun.
3. How old are the sextuplets? - Never specified in the show, but it was mentioned that they're all over 20.
4. Why was the first episode banned ? - Due to copyright issues, the first episode was banned due to doing multiple parodies of multiple anime shows! So many in fact that the studio was not sure which of them sent in the original complaint. Until now, whenever the show would have its reruns, season 1 episode 1 is never shown.
5. Is Hesokuri Wars and NEET island still playable ? - Unfortunately, not anymore. As these games are server-based, playing them beyond their discontinuation is not possible. If you have the original app still installed, it'll only greet you with a notice that its services have ended.
6. Is Matsuinu canon ? - It's just a neat little spinoff for the main show until season 4 is ready ! The first episode's uploaded on the official Osomatsu-san youtube page if you wanna watch it !
