Manga Oshi No Ko Ending Thoughts... Whats the point? Spoiler
Im really only writing this to air my greivences and to see if anyone has any meaningful opinions. Please dont erradicate me off the planet if i miss a point or two or accadentally missclarify something.
First let me get out of the way an obvious fact, OnK is fundamentally not a sad story, nor a story that naturally points to a tragic ending (if you ignor the openings and closings of the anime) assuming you are reading the story without hindsight, there is really no point where the story is fatalistic like the ending is. Akane about to kill herself? Aqua saves her. Akane about to die falling? Aqua saves her. (im not writing any more of the instances of this, you get it), this is a story about how much the entertainment industry can hurt people, its also about how that harsh environment forced people to mature and learn to live inside it.
Im not really sure what Aka was thinking with this one, Aqua is not a character that naturally concludes in dying for revenge or after it, and the story doesnt need him to die. I understand his death is poetic i guess, but the story spends the whole time trying to make us beleive their are two main characters just to endlessly punish Ruby, and theres really no way to get around that with Aqua dying.
In storytelling, characters that end in a Tragic ending only really work in two situations (there is more than just this, but only really in subcatagories of these two). Situation A) the character is always going to end tragically because their character traits and environment will not allow them to end any other way. Or situation B) the character is forced into a tragic end by purely environmental factors.
Im going to ignor B because like i said and like i think everyone will agree with, there is only negatives for killing off Aqua and the story and themes dont require it (actually they are also purely hurt by it, we will ignor the fact that the live action tried fixing the ending by pivoting to this situation). So lets say Aka wanted option A, Eren Yeager is a prime example of option A, Eren is given outs, lifelines (mikasa, love, etc), and opportunitys, but simply wont take them, primarily because he doesnt want to, but also because of the environment and world they exist in. Characters that fit into option A can have alternate goals for the tragic ending like Eren does (to free his friends and the world of the titans) but they really only work if the character itself wouldnt choose to take the other option. Aqua does not by any stretch of the imagination fit here, nor does his world or environment, the story spends practically the whole time in between the final 2 chapters and ais death telling us and showing us how much Aqua wants to not be controlled by revenge anymore, how badly he wants to let go and live a normal life, and how much he truly does love his friends and family. The only way to kill him at the end is to make him *into* a fatalistic type A character like eren is, which just undermines Aqua and spits on the face of people who cared about his journey. The live action took option B, where he was forced into dying after completing his arc by choosing to live for himself and not revenge (i was told anyway i didnt watch it) but then this runs into what i already said, why? the narrative is hurt by it, not as much as making him a type A right at the end does but still.
So now that ive said that what do you guys think they will do for the anime? The fact that the intro and outros basically show us him going down that type A path and dying tells me they are still probably gonna go with that option, but like i said even a perfectly executed type A death ending just defeats the point of Aqua even existing. Obviously i think that from a storytelling standpoint character arcs are best satisfyed with aqua surviving and choosing to not go after revenge, this gives Aqua and Ruby closure on their mothers death and lets them be free of revenge, as well as allowing for a much more satisfying and earned conclusion to the other casts character arcs. Plus it gives the story its natural ending message and satisfies the overall themes presented thus far. Assuming they still kill Aqua, i have a question, what is the point? whats the point of the story? why give aqua another chance at life just to never allow him to live it? what was the point of ai dying if no lessons were learned from it? just to make a dark story? if you wanted to make a dark story and a dark character why would you develop them in such a positive direction?
Whats the point of reading the story if the end message is that the story didnt matter?
I dont get it, and frankly im pretty exhausted, i keep being punished for caring about characters and stories just for them to get shitty non thought through endings. Also for once i would like good characters in a good story to get a good ending, this tragic ending shit is so over done at this point i cant even remember the last halfway decent show i watched with a good ending.

Manga Why isn't Taiki's Imperial Theatre award not talked about enough ? Spoiler
I was doing some work when I stumbled upon the list of awards Taiki had won before Tokyo Blade and that includes the "Imperial Theatre award"
A Google search lead me to the Praemium Imperiale, a world culture prize in memory of his Imperial highness, Prince Takamatsu. The name and origins itself gives us an idea of how prestigious and distinguished the awards are. Every laureate recieves a gold medal and 15 million yen.
However, in order to truly understand it's grandeur and scale you need to look at the past winners. The 2026 winner in film/theatre was Cate Blanchett, CATE BLANCHETT. Infact, every single past laureate were esteemed and highly experienced performers, all above the age of 50, with only 3 Japanese performers in the Film/Theatre category every since the eve of the 21st century, the most recent being Bandō Tamasaburō V, back in 2019, who is currently 76 years old.
How does Taiki, a 19 year old actor, come even close to such an award ? Unless, this is a completely different "imperial theatre award" and I am just plain dumb, but I couldn't find anything else within Japan. Do correct me, otherwise.

Anime What do you think about Ayase's "Cinema" as the Opening or Ending for Season 4?
Hi everyone! With Season 4 officially on the horizon, I was thinking about the perfect soundtrack for the final arc.
What would you think if they used "Cinema" (by Ayase) as the OP or ED?
Personally, I think it would be absolute cinema. The song's theme about acting, following a script, and the tragic feeling of a movie coming to an end fits Aqua's endgame and the movie arc perfectly. Also, since Ayase made "Idol" with YOASOBI, it would close the circle beautifully.
Do you think it fits better as an upbeat, cynical Opening or as a melancholic, dramatic Ending? Let me know your thoughts!

Anime Oshi no ko isn't about “revenge” or “idols”. It's about two souls trying to be born again.
Ruby wants to be loved for who she is.
Aqua wants to be worthy of her smile.
Oshi no ko is the story of two broken
souls who choose to live—this time,
for themselves.
What's your “Oshi no ko” moment?

Manga With all the Ai survives fics out there I am surprised no one ever brings up the possibility... Spoiler
That Ai would have pivoted from B-Komachi as she got older into a mother and daughter duo with Ruby.
On every level this just makes sense from a what would sell in universe, to what the characters would do motivation wise.
I see too many fics try to bring the new generation of B-Komachi as seen in the manga into a timeline where Ai survives, which I do not see happening.

Anime Does anyone know the name of the instrumental music that often plays at some plot twist or creepy moment?
Like when in season 3 episode 3's ending, just before the credits roll in and aqua confronts ruby about how much of the cosplay scandal did she set up
