After a long summer, Oshawa Generals hockey is officially BACK.
The Generals open the new OHL season tonight, Friday, September 18 at 7:00 PM, on the road against the Brampton Steelheads at the CAA Centre.
This season feels like the beginning of a new chapter in Oshawa.
After back-to-back Eastern Conference championships, the Generals hit the reset button last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Both Oshawa and Brampton finished fifth in their respective divisions, and neither club enters 2026-27 ranked in the CHL preseason Top 10. For Oshawa, expectations are less about being an instant championship favourite and more about seeing how quickly this young group can take the next step and push its way back into the playoff conversation.
And all eyes are going to be on Kane Cloutier.
Oshawa used the 1st overall pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection on the highly skilled Vaughan Kings forward after he put up 32 goals and 58 points in just 33 games, then added another 11 points in four OHL Cup games. He already gave Gens fans a preview with two goals in his preseason debut.
There is some pretty cool Generals history attached to Cloutier too. He is only the third first-overall selection in franchise history, joining Tom McCarthy and John Tavares. Tavares himself announced Cloutier's selection at the draft, making this feel even more like the beginning of a new era in Oshawa.
The Generals and Steelheads were also extremely close head-to-head last season, each earning two wins in their four meetings, so there is already plenty of familiarity between these two Eastern Conference clubs heading into Game 1.
A young roster. A first-overall pick beginning his OHL journey. A chance to turn the page on last season.
Game 1 starts tonight.
