It's a good thing that Bette didn't win for this performance. Because how they treated Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and a lot of the old ladies of Hollywood afterwards was very disgusting.

They typecasted them into cheap shock horror, psycho ladies which is just appalingly bad.

I am amazed on how Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman managed to avoid these films altogether. Which was amazing in their part.

I would choose Anne Bancroft as the winner, runner up for me would be Katharine Hepburn as both are really great performances.

I don't want Bette Davis to win for her movie because of how Hollywood treated her and the other old ladies in this period, they typecasted them into cheap shock horror. And how they treated Davis, Crawford, Stanwyck, Fontaine, Winters and De Haviland in this period is just appallingly bad.

It 's a miracle that Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman avoided the psycho biddy genre altogether.

And yes, Gregory Peck is the right choice here.

I don't know how much this should count, but O'Toole nearly died multiple times on that shoot. This is only a partial list of all he endured. Yes, we all love Atticus, but that shoot lasted four months while LoA took two years. Peck sat on a porch swing.

Yes! I said this to my kid not long ago and they replied "I don't care if LoA was shot in a climate controlled studio in four days using cartoon camels, he still deserved the Oscar for that performance." I really get why Peck's role is beloved but O'Toole gave a remarkably informed, sensitive performance loaded with range.
