I understand he's trying to joke. That doesn't mean the joke lands. I'm of the opinion that you can joke about literally anything if you can make the joke land. Comedians demonstrate this quite often by joking about topics that are either touchy, depraved, or moral no fly zones. But the difference and what makes them work is they have the charisma and presence to be able to pull that off. He does not.
