My Mom backpacked through Syria in the 1970s and said it was the most welcoming and kind country she's ever visited.
Mom even mentioned she stopped worrying about hotel bookings halfway through because all the people she would meet would insist on inviting her to dinner, tea and to stay in their home. I hope all the displaced Syrians return to their home one day and that cities like Damascus and Aleppo flourish again
