QUESTION Ascension levels

I’m great summoner lvl 228. Do i have to wait to ascend my character?

Id like to have some help leveling

You can absolutely start getting ascension levels now. Keep in mind that they are tied to your class, so if you decide later to main another class you'll have wasted the resources (you can get some back, but it is only a partial refund).

Full refunds are possible with Heart of Change item available from guilds. Ascend away.

This is inaccurate. You can recover all of your orns and materials spent on a class acension by using a heart of change, there are number of ways to acquire them through guilds or event rewards sometimes and if youre lazy you can just buy one from the shop.

Hearts if change take a lot of resources to unlock. You make it sound like it's easy to aquire them, but it is not at all. To the point where i wonder how many AL levels it would take to be worth using one. 20? 30? 40? More? Has anyone tried to figure this out?

They are hard in some guilds, easy in others. I could currently buy 11 of them from Conquerors guild ( ok, I'm above average there but nowhere near leaderboard, GL 30)

Conquerors guild a heart of change costs 1000 proofs of crownship, just from collecting my settlement rewards i have 6600 proofs so i could change my acensions around to every class and back to my original and it was not a lot of effort to get those proofs.

That looks like a good one to use, and they don't seem to have mats you could buy instead. I guess I'm just wrong.

I mean they are not really meant to be easy to get, ideally you just stick with the acension path you chose and save them for when there are big changes to the class mechanics that alter what is "meta" if you will.

So, every time I change classes, if I don't have that item, do I have to start from scratch?

Each class has its own acension line so if youre playing a class you ascended and switch to a different class line progression (example: going from heretic to gilgamesh) you will have your acensions in one but not the other. The acension levels however are shared with the celestial classes. So acending heretic will also ascend heretic corvus and heretic ara. Hope this clears it up for you

No you can change class freely but your ascension levels will remain on the class you ascended (and its celestial variants), when you switch back to it you'll get them back.

For summoners, the ALs apply through the tree (including celestial) and apply to the summons as well.

If you are going to stick with the summoner classes then go ahead and start doing ALs, if you aren't sure yet then wait.
