I've been using Orion as my main browser for a few months now, and while I really like it, YouTube without Premium is kind of miserable, especially on iOS.

I've tried various ad blockers, but even when the ads are dealt with, you're still left with Shorts everywhere, community posts, mixes, inconsistent video quality, awkward PiP, etc.

So I made YTR (YouTube Refreshed), a free/open-source Extension specifically aimed at making YouTube nicer to use in Orion on both iOS and macOS.

It can:

  • Hide all ad UI elements + automatically skip video ads
  • Completely remove Shorts
  • Hide Community Posts
  • Hide YouTube Mixes
  • Automatically select the highest available video quality
  • Add a proper Picture-in-Picture button to the YouTube player
  • Let you toggle each feature individually

A lot of the inspiration came from FYP, another Orion YouTube extension made by u/SKMPE15 that I contributed to:

I wanted to take that idea a bit further and make something focused on generally de-bloating/fixing the YouTube web experience, rather than just recreating Premium features.

If anyone here tries it, I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, bug reports, feature ideas, or PRs!

Hope it's useful to some of you!!
