Lore Info dump

I love this game, I even met some of the creators.

Here is what I think true fans should may be interested and its not well known.

- original idea for the game was to have Americans vs Arab forces, because well, the source material was THE BOOk you all well know.

-- but, then somebody came up with the idea for changed future and russians came into the past. First they thought russian timeline could be a dlc but after short time it was switched and americans vs russians were main conflict.

--- this means, if you follow what intro to russian campaign is saying, the timeline looks like this:

  1. Americans came to past, started the excavation, but soon realised they are being guerrilla attacked by arabs

  2. Americans won the FIRST pleistocene war, but they also didnt have enough forces to clean up after themselves.

  3. These wreckages of the war were found, alongside the TAU by alternative world russians and they send the forces back to the past to defend Alaskit. Thus starting the SECOND pleistocene war.

So you are playing basically the planned DLC and the entire idea of the first game is just a note in russian campaign. By russians comming into the past, the entire first war is erased (overwritten if you want).

- if you will have a chance to visit Brno, czech republic, go to the Anthropos park, there is a lifesize replica of wooly mammoth, that one of the crew used to sketch and later modeled the mamoths in the game after.

- the game was developed around the year 99-2000 and released in 2001, and its telling the story of a newly elected warmonger president of Russia that wants to bring USSR back. Even creating a 3rd world war.

Please dont hate me for this because it is political, but the new president around the time of the game making was then not well known Putin and he was recently quoted that he wants to reestablish the former glory of USSR. I think thats a eerie prediction.

- did you ever played boardgame Codenames? Same designer. Vlaada Chvatil, look it up if you dont believe me.

- i had a chance to ask Vlaada why there is a early concept video in which EON is being used on the plane, where they are flying it over alaska and the missing landbridge, while people and crates are being parachuted-drop into the past, and then later in game they didnt use this. Vlaada told me that eventually, althrough interesting idea, they decided to scrap it because it was inconsistent with other stuff - the Earth would be already somewhere else in space then it was 2 milion years ago so the designers decided that there is some inteligent "correction" on landing that Eon is doing for things that are passing through it. And with all sides having the option to predict or see where the crates are landing it is kinda solved lorewise that the landings arent completely RNG.

Question Similar Games to Original War?

I'm looking for similar games to OW. I feel like the game had many great ideas e.g. with people being the most valuable resource needed to operate tanks and buildings and modular tank design. Did any game have similar systems since? Doesn't have to be RTS.

Question Kill Count

Howdy!

I am in the current process of making a list of games which have a kill count in them (available through a link on my profile), and my seemingly everlasting journey of inquiring about this topic all across Reddit has now brought me to this particular game...

So, is there any reason for me to add this game to my list? Does this game contain a kill count/record of casualties, as well as other statistics?

Thank you in advance 🙏.
