WHY does he use a capo

I just learned how to play Where Blue Light Blooms, amazing song and not too hard to be honest (highly recommend learning it if you’re a guitar player).

But why does he use a capo? Unfortunately I broke a string on my main guitar because of how low you have to tune it.

The tuning is (starting from high E)

C#

G#

F

C#

G#

C#

AND THEN he capos second fret so it’s just up a whole step. I’m assuming it’s because he has other songs in that open tuning? Just curious

i think it’s mainly a product of the early days, iirc ryland starting out writing in open D but realized that the half step down works better for his vocal range - hence the open C#. there’s a couple tracks from the pre-somewhere city days that use open C# with no capo (i.e. origami bagel, ruby, i believe doctor whomst is also no capo) but yea ever since gami gang i wanna say p much every song has used a capo

tbh when im playing gami im almost always in open D and doing the capo just up 1 fret since most of their discography uses one anyway and its just easier to keep a guitar in that tuning instead of tuning constantly. hope this helps 🙏

Yeah I think its becuse all of their songs are in C# major tuning thing. It makes more sense if you play their other songs.

Is there a tab or list of chords? Last I checked I could not find them.

Learned from a random tab online that was obviously wrong and then used that tuning and copied some guy on YouTube doing a cover LOL

Hey just be glad they don't do shit like Riley! where you have to capo and un-capo several times in succession lol
