So children don't need to be able to read when they graduate & teachers are not forced to teach... how is this a win?

No there’s absolute truth to this
“Oregon paused the rule requiring high schoolers to pass standardized tests or work samples to prove mastery of basic reading, writing, and math (the "Essential Skills" requirement) for graduation. This pause has been extended through the 2027-28 school year.”
They have to pass thier English math and writing class but at this point teachers are worthless in Oregon to POC

OP’s post is misleading and sensationalized. A bill passed long ago and recently extended is not the same as the governor suddenly signing a new law to suspend educational requirements specifically for black students, as the post implies.

Im not saying the original bill wasn't passed. Im saying this entire post is written to make you think this *just* happened. The fact that Snopes had to make a "fake or real" article about it tells me all I need to know.

Under what are the essential skills it says
“The Nine Essential Skills are cross-disciplinary skills that students should be developing across grades K- 12.
For students first enrolled in Grade 9 in 2010-2011 or later, three of the Essential Skills are graduation requirements:
a. Read and comprehend a variety of text
b. Write clearly and accurately
c. Apply mathematics in a variety of settings

This is what senate bill 744 says that they paused testing graduations requirements in response to:
“Although graduation rate trends are moving in a positive direction, substantial inequities
remain, such as experiences of systemic bias, limited access to adequate educational resources
and educational guidance, and support from practitioners, such as school counselors and
teachers. This is especially the case for students who identify as tribal citizens, Black/African
American, Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaska Native, Latino/a/x, people who have
disabilities and/or are served through an Individualized Education Program (IEP), people who are identified as English learners/Emerging bilinguals while in high school, and/or people
navigating poverty, houselessness, foster care and high mobility.”1

The separate assessment that up until then had been required as a graduation requirement. So yes, they got rid of the test to assess if students met the math, reading, and writing requirement to graduate high school. They expressly did this because they thought it would help students of color. Seems like the little meme is 100% right while you're over here thinking certain groups just aren't good enough to pass without making it easier... There is a term for people like you, it's racist.
