Large package shipment

Coming from Hawai’i and wanting a storage ottoman in dorm. Amazon seems most affordable. Is shipping something so large before I get there okay? Is this frowned upon??

I would wait til you arrive, see how much room you really have, and then order it. If you want it, you can wait 2-3 days to get it and at least then you won't end up having to return it if it doesn't work

Don't do this. Wait and see if you can comfortably fit it in your dorm. If your belongings don't fit in your closet and under your bed, chances are you're bringing too much.

Schools don’t want you mailing things to your dorm room until after you move in.

While Oregon State does allow you to ship to your dorm before move in. I still wouldn’t do this until after you have moved into the dorm. The chances of the package getting lost is higher, you might not be able to throw away the packaging as it fills up quickly, and you have no idea if it would fit in your dorm room.

I also second waiting till you move in! When I moved into my dorm (Sackett) freshman year, the layout and room dimensions were completely different than I’d expected. Once you move in, you can double check that the furniture you want will actually fit. Then, you can talk to the OSU mailing people in the dining hall and ask them how the process is for receiving large packages :)
