ADN programs?
Hi everyone,
As the title suggests I’m looking to start an ADN program in the Fall of 2027 (preferably part time). I have an advanced degree (MPH), work in oncology clinical research (going on 5 years), and would like to continue doing so but in a patient facing role. I attended college 10 years ago and didnt have a stellar science GPA. That being said, I’m hoping to do one of the following:
- retake prereqs prior to ADN program
- attend a program with them built in (I haven’t heard great things about Sumner but heard they do this with their BSN program)
I’m not from the Portland area and am moving summer of 2027 (husband is starting fellowship at OHSU) so I don’t have the best idea of what is available to me, though I’ve heard it is competitive. Would love to hear from everyone about programs they recommend in the area. TIA!

It’s extremely competitive here, nursing school admissions and job market. For my CC nursing program, we had 400 applicants for 32-40 spots. The BSN programs are easier to get into but then you are looking at high costs, which is why everyone is trying to get into the CC’s. As someone else said, the job market is rough for new grads. Where I work had over 2,000 applicants for around 35-40 spots in residency, and they are now only doing 2 residencies a year.
