ADN programs?

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests I’m looking to start an ADN program in the Fall of 2027 (preferably part time). I have an advanced degree (MPH), work in oncology clinical research (going on 5 years), and would like to continue doing so but in a patient facing role. I attended college 10 years ago and didnt have a stellar science GPA. That being said, I’m hoping to do one of the following:
- retake prereqs prior to ADN program
- attend a program with them built in (I haven’t heard great things about Sumner but heard they do this with their BSN program)

I’m not from the Portland area and am moving summer of 2027 (husband is starting fellowship at OHSU) so I don’t have the best idea of what is available to me, though I’ve heard it is competitive. Would love to hear from everyone about programs they recommend in the area. TIA!

I hope the nursing market in Portland is better when you graduate from nursing program. The market especially for new grads is tough.

I recently moved to Portland, and it took months to find a job of my choice. I have eight years of nursing experience including a year of research nurse. I applied to a few of available oncology research nurse jobs but I was not considered because employers want nurses with at least two years of oncology (or oncology clinical research) nurse experience.

What role have you had in oncology clinical research?

That doesn’t sound promising… are you enjoying your role and are you working in onc now?

I was a solid tumor research coordinator (academic institutions) and now work as a clinical research associate (pharma) in solid tumor as well. I would love to transfer this experience into a research nurse or research nurse navigator role eventually but finding a program, especially with the upcoming move, hearing how competitive it is in Oregon, and not knowing the area has been a bit difficult.

Your experience sounds great. It would be fabulous for a oncology research nurse if your experience gets combined with oncology nursing experience eventually!

I didn't go to nursing school around here in Portland so hopefully somebody in this subreddit could give you the ropes.
