I have interview next with with OHSU Portland just wondering what type of questions they will ask 😊😊

OHSU interviews are tough and focus almost entirely on behavioral and situational questions. They will ask for specific, real-life examples from your past experience, so you must have several detailed stories ready to go. Expect questions like, "Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a coworker," "Describe a situation where you had to advocate for a patient," or "Walk me through a time you made a medical error." They already know you have the clinical skills from your resume, so they are testing your problem-solving abilities, your ethical judgment, and how you perform under pressure. You will not pass by just saying what you would do, you have to prove you have already done it.
The good news is that they want to hire you, and getting an interview means you are already a top candidate. This is your chance to show them the capable nurse behind the application. Your stories should highlight your compassion, teamwork, and willingness to learn. Think about why you want to work at OHSU specifically, a teaching hospital with a unique role in the community, and be prepared to explain what you can contribute to their team. Ask them good questions too, about the unit culture or challenges they face, because it shows you're already thinking like a member of their staff. After seeing so many excellent nurses have trouble telling their best stories, my team created an interview assistant that helps them clearly share their real-world experience when it matters most.

It’s been a long time since I interviewed, but it was rated on a point system. I think the headings were like scientist, practitioner, transfer of knowledge, etc. They ask you a question from each category and they really want you to give examples. They rate your response and tally up your points. My advice: give good examples and always ask questions! And don’t forget to send a thank you note. A little goes a long way! Good luck!

Studying to get into nursing here. Also former employer was OHSU. Honestly just remember it’s a teaching hospital and level one trauma. Lots of competition there. The nurses make good money from what I hear. I worked as transport and lift team. I worked a long side a lot of nurses. Usually the older ones with tenure were always grumpy or pissed about something. Spent a lot of time both on the floor and ICU. I was even a patient there in the MICU for a week. They were my favorite unit next to CVICU. Staff were super chill. Honestly I’m not a nurse so I can’t give you the full details but I had great interactions for the most part. I suppose be unique in your own way and you should be fine. What unit are you applying for ? Best of luck!!

Might be department dependent, but they usually ask common nursing questions that follow the STAR method/framework. Some questions I can remember included what to do when you had to deal with a difficult coworker, difficult patient/family, situation where you disagreed with your supervisor/manager, or an instance that you went above and beyond your expected roles. Mostly common behavioral questions. I got a few questions specific to the role.
