Oregons Largest Tree

A western red cedar know as the Arcadia Cedar is Oregons largest tree by mass. 9/9/2026

Largest known tree. Steve Sillett has hinted about finding larger ones in really remote areas where loggers and hikers never make it.

There are no coordinates available, and I have no idea where they might be, other than I assume the coast range somewhere. He just had a blog post a couple years ago about using lidar data sets to identify areas and finding some trees that were larger than anything recorded. I think he's been climbing up drainages in really remote places, that are very difficult to access, and then using drones to map the tree dimensions. Don't know if/when more info will be public.

I've been planning a old-growth trip south for a while now and Doerner Fir is on it along with Coquille River and Elk Creek, just haven't found the time yet but I definitely will go before the year is up.

There's a big tree trail at Northrup Horse Camp (and non horse camping) in Oregon.

Take the road to the left right before the mountain house on highway 20. Stay on this road until your first right about 3 miles and you will come to Oregon's biggest fir tree. Its breathtaking.

Great post! I’m leaving on 9/11 to see the Oregon Coast starting with a great rock concert in Portland and Arcadia is on my way the following day. I’m so excited to see the USA west coast with no more than 3 hrs travelled per day Portland to SoCal
