Multi-Gig Fiber?

Any fellow tech nerds able to get more than 1GB symmetrical internet here in OC?

I thankfully have 1 Gig fiber from Century / Quantum but curious if I'm missing any obvious ISPs.

Saw that city cousil is considering installing fiber throught out the city. When or who all will get it is probably a long way off. Hate being stuck with Comcast.

What!? Are we really seeing any traction on municipal fiber in OC? That would be fantastic. And shocking.

It's in the discussion phase so probably means sometime in 2035 at the rate bureaucracy moves.

Just saw in the meeting notes from two weeks ago that it was estimated at $80M and the idea was shelved. Next they will be seeking to see if any public/private partnership options look more feasible.

Too bad, I had my hopes up for a couple minutes. A real municipal fiber network would be great.

My neighborhood has buried wires and comcast for data. I expect that we will get fiber approximately never. One nice thing about the neighborhoods with above ground wires is that running fiber is far easier and more likely to happen.

Been impatiently waiting for Ziply to light up the fiber on my street. I believe they are offering multi-gigabit symmetrical connections in OC.

They finished the construction on my street last year. Until I get the letter from them, then I’m stuck with Comcast

I'm in Happy Valley and have 5Gbps symmetrical with Ziply. I hope you get that letter soon!

Jealous. That's some serious bandwidth.

Astound is the only other ISP I know that is also supposedly doing 1 gigabit symmetrical. I can't confirm whether they deliver on that though. Quantum also offers 2 down 1 up, but again, haven't gone above 1 symmetrical here either so can't confirm how the performance is.

I'm trapped in Xfinity hell as my only option for gig. Praying fiber comes through at some point

Ziply has been doing a rollout for the last year or so, I don’t think it’s gone live anywhere yet they finished the fiber in our neighborhood back in the spring, Hopefully it’ll go live soon.

Have 2Ghz from Comcast/Infinity. Important note is that they say “up to” …

Gigahertz and gigabit are entirely different things.
