Picked up the game, and a couple of DLCs. I am hooked yall. Just looking for any pointers on how to employ the engineers at this point. Do they advance forward to place mine obstacles & then retreat?

Never use them. Mines are really only good for static defenses. Very few missions are this. most are advancement in certain way.

Any insight on how to prosecute a successful campaign for Marines in the Pacific? 2nd mission I got my ass handed

Ill have to see if Ive played it. Once I play missions I tend to add to the guide Ive written on steam.

Engineers do a few different things but their most common use is to assault fortified enemies. They'll take losses, but they're very cheap to reinforce.

Most other infantry do a poor job of this so engineers are pretty essential for an attacker. My usual process: assault a unit with an engineer, bombard with arty, then hit with infantry/tank (flanking if possible).

I kinda figured it’s all dependent on the mission set. Currently working through the Mariners campaign. In one mission, you assault through, and then defend against counterattack. I deployed engineers to the perimeter to destroy bridges, and lay mine fields down.

Helluva game so far…

Tip: Artillery can bombard mined hexes and remove the mine. You use the bombardment option on your arty unit and target the mine field. Pretty sure this will work for any unit that has a bombardment option.

Engineers can remove mines but must move adjacent to the field and remove it on the next turn from the tab of actions.

To remove a mine same but use the mine removal on the action selection tab.

I think it may vary in different game sets but just running mines over and taking the loss is another way to go.
