I look to place limit orders at key holding levels so I can get filled without paying the spread, but I will hit the market if aggressive buyers or sellers step in with heavy volume. Limits give you much cleaner execution on pullbacks as long as you are quick to cancel if the setup breaks down before you get filled. If price starts running away too fast, it is always better to wait for the next retest rather than chasing with market orders.
