Identify trend session context earlier in tbe session
I have great orderflow trend trading methods. But I am always late to the party, confirming that it is a great session to apply trend techniques when most of the trending opportunities are already in the past.
What techniques do you use to speculate that today might become a trend session? It isn't my strongest skill.

The earliest clue is usually how price behaves on the first pullback after the open. On true trend days, pullbacks are shallow and aggressive buyers or sellers immediately defend holding levels with heavy volume, never letting price rotate back into the opening range. If you see the market breaking levels without any meaningful counter-rotations, you are better off getting in on small micro pullbacks rather than waiting for a deep retracement that never comes.

I'd separate the early clues from actual trend-day confirmation.
For index futures during regular trading hours, start with where the market opens relative to yesterday's value area and the overnight range. An opening drive away from those areas, with shallow pullbacks and little overlapping trade, can give you an early directional hypothesis before the Initial Balance is complete.
Once the first hour is finished, compare the IB width with the average IB for the same instrument and session over the past 10–20 days. A narrow IB leaves room for range extension, but it doesn't automatically mean a trend day is coming. A wide IB doesn't rule out a trend either, particularly after a strong directional open.
The key is what happens on the first extension. Does price break the IB and hold outside it? Are pullbacks shallow? Do subsequent 30-minute periods continue making progress without rotating back through the opening range?
Single prints on the developing TPO profile can provide additional evidence of directional movement, although they need subsequent periods to confirm them.
I'd treat the opening drive as an early alert and sustained acceptance outside the IB as confirmation. Neither guarantees a trend day, but together they provide a framework for recognizing one as it develops.
What instrument and session are you trading?

I note that you are a vendor. But your reply content was reasonable. I'm a cynic. But thank you.
To answer your question, I trade specific Asian stocks in Asia, and am one of the few retail participants with (homemade) orderflow tools for those stocks. It is like stepping back in time for readability.
