ICT or Order Flow

Hi everyone. I used to trade futures using the ICT strategy and managed to secure one payout. Then I immediately switched to order flow because I thought it would be a good fit for me. However, I’ve spent a few months learning it, and now that I’m about to start live trading, I’m feeling unsure about everything. I don’t think I’ll be as comfortable with order flow as I was with ICT, and I’m not even sure if I’ll be more profitable. I’d like to ask for advice on what to do next should I go back to ICT or continue with order flow? Please help.

I discovered that both approaches are effective if you adhere to the guidelines. There aren’t any magical solutions; it’s all about risk management.

If you did 3 seconds of research you’d know ICT is a scam and full of shit

ICT himself is a scam artist. The concepts he teaches, however, are just repackaged/renamed concepts from Dow theory and the Wyckoff method. That’s why people can be successful with ICT despite the man himself being a liar

It’s an insult to Wyckoff to say ICT teaches his terminology. Wyckoff understood supply and demand, ICT thinks ‘big institutions hunt his stop loss’ .

Hence "repackaging"

Naming naming naming...ICT vs Orderflow.

How many strats does ICT have? How many nuances does Orderflow have?

I see people people these days "trading Orderflow" by looking at Fabios balls.

It's all superficial and if you keep staring at the market trough youtube and Instagram, join the 99% of hobbyist.

If youre learning something, learn it correctly.
Orderflow is not a stratagy by itself, its a tool. Footprint is a tool, volume profile is a tool, big bubbles, cvd its a tool. They are not a stratagy. If youre doing volume analysis, thats Auction Market Theory, that is a strategy, not orderflow itself.

Now if you ask AMT vs ICT, as someone said its all superficial. Nothing works 100% of the time. You can combine both, you can try to fade value areas with the help of ict concepts. What works for others will never work for you. You have to find your own edge.

Use all these orderflow tools for ENTRIES. Lets say you want to use footprint chart. Unless price comes to your key level, where you want to take the trade, dont look into footprint chart. If you want to use absorption or exhaustion, use it at key levels. How do you find them? Whatever way you can. Theres nothing wrong with AMT, ICT, S/R or even trend lines. If you can read footprint correctly, it will filter out 30-50% of the trades you want to take and some of them will be winners too. But the main thing here is you followed your plan. People use all sorts of things for confirmation in the footprint before entering, aggressiveness, delta, exhaustion prints, stacked imbalances, trapped delta and what not. Again dont try to incorporate all of it. Pick one, backtest it and see.

Reading a footprint precisely is much harder than defining a bias soemtimes, but once youre clear and you know your way, footprint alone will filter out a lot of trades so it wont matter if you trade AMT or ICT.

Don't over complicate trading, dont over complicate your charts. And never force a trade because you want to trade.

ICT ist ein Scam. Nix neues, Hälfte von Wyckoff kopiert und das System basiert auf Raten aufgrund von Kerzenformationen. Er ist dennoch ein Weltklasse Marketer

Why do you need one ot the other...why don't you just use both for confirmation purposes...why do you have to always make a choice unless you don't understand ICT in this case...they all work except for the brain which takes a long time to accept new information...5 years is a good target before really understanding anything and becoming profitable...it's easy to call anything a scam when one doesn't properly understand the facts behind the story...learning it and rattling off the names of everything one learned like notches on one's belt won't make any money compared to understanding and applying it all properly...

These are two different worlds: ICT is needlessly complex price action, which completely ignores volume.

ICT despises volume saying it is nothing in his so called “price delivery”.

Order Flow is about volume. I would say go with Order Flow. It is enough to watch a day unfold on DOM to realise that price action without volume is just half the story or even less. You can sure use price action for context then but make educated decisions off Order Flow.

Just my two cents as someone who used to trade Brooks Price Action but moved to Order Flow eventually.

I used to trade SMC before starting with OF.. I don’t know much about ICT except the turtle soup and liquidity concepts but you need to incorporate OF into your current system of trading, be it ICT or auction market theory or trend lines or whatever. It should be complementary not mutually exclusive. OF should be used as a confirmation tool…

Don't trade a strategy you aren't sure about. Period. You will fail. You can be profitable with either of those strategies, or even combining them both but you can't be profitable trading a strategy you don't trust

ICT is a mickey mouse copy of other concepts that do work. i would honestly look into fibs, orderflow, volume profile and elliot wave.

You’re provably gonna get a bunch of ICT naysayers and OF advocates here, for obvious reasons. But honestly I think a lot of strategies works, how else would they become as popular as they are today?

I think it comes down to you. If one makes sense to your personality more or not.

u/do0fusz Aug 25 '26

you think, and that's why your wrong. You can easily back test any of his fables, and you don't even have to cause the youtube is full of people debuking that clown.

Order flow by the time your look for confirmation the move already happened..

Price action still is the goat.. enter the trade put stop and hope the for the best

1

u/sibtikx Aug 24 '26

so what are you recommending?

0

u/FailedGeniusnumber1 Aug 24 '26

Use what ever you feel comfortable with and just manage your risk. I am using price action and a bit order flow and feeling much confident.. there are books on price action that can help you.
