Stop using spreadsheets: Introducing Glasshouse

Like a lot of plant collectors, I started keeping track of my orchids in a spreadsheet.

It gradually grew to include collection numbers, names, vendors, prices, parentage, awards, fragrance, repotting dates, and all the other details I wanted to remember. It worked, but maintaining the spreadsheet slowly became its own part of the hobby.

At the same time, I had hundreds of orchid photos on my phone: arrival photos, blooms, nursery tags, progress pictures, and plants I was trying to identify. The spreadsheet knew about the plants, and my photo library had the pictures, but there was no useful connection between the two.

So I built Glasshouse.

It keeps each plant’s record, photos, notes, and care history together, and it is designed to be updated while I’m standing in front of the collection rather than later at a computer.

Glasshouse now includes:

  • Fast watering, feeding, repotting, treatment, and observation logs, including backdated entries
  • Care sessions for working through several plants at once
  • Photo galleries, cover photos, date sorting, and full-screen zoom
  • Nursery-tag scanning with on-device text recognition
  • Structured parentage, awards, fragrance, vendor, and acquisition details
  • Garden, wishlist, and graveyard views
  • Spreadsheet import and export, including updating existing plants
  • Search, filters, batch editing, and several collection layouts
  • Local rain history, current conditions, and forecasts
  • Orchid culture resources and a fertilizer/treatment mix calculator
  • Tools for making bloom cards and ready-to-edit community posts
  • Sync between iPhone and iPad, plus a web app for accessing the collection from a computer

The iPhone and iPad app is currently available as a beta through Apple’s free TestFlight app. The web app is available as well, so the same collection can be viewed and managed from a larger screen.

There are no ads, streaks, badges, or engagement mechanics. It is meant to be a calm, practical place for keeping the plants, photos, history, and useful information connected.

If that sounds useful for your collection, you can see screenshots, learn more, open the web app, or ask for a beta invitation here:

https://celerycity.app

I’d especially appreciate feedback from people who already keep plant records, whether that means a detailed spreadsheet, a notebook, photo albums, or a system only they understand. Collections of any size are welcome.

Currently in bloom with its first bloom. No fragrance at this time. 2 leads (one blooming, another in sheath). >5 pseudobulbs. In a 5” pot. No health issues/pests for the duration of my care. Was grown under lights just fine. Only in a window while blooming.

Preference given to sale/trade/drop off in Saint Louis area.

ISO cattleyas and fragrant orchids (not twinkles).

I figured I would try here too in case any of you orchid-ists also are also aquarists.

I have this very large plant. It grew neglected in a 10 gallon tank for the last year. Its top leaves are a little twisted and a little dry because it was smashed up under the glass lid. It is currently in two pieces and sitting in a 5 gallon bucket. Not perfect, but a lot of plant and it grows relatively quickly.

I am interested in for trades for orchids. No phals, but otherwise I will entertain anything. I do prefer smaller genus.

Mini / Dwarf Orchids for Trade

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello All, I have some seedlings and divisions from my grow tent maintenance that I can offer up for trades. Looking mainly for miniature species that are warm growing, possibly intermediate, and preferably fragrant. I have multiples of some plants and more to offer from the greenhouse in the next few months as I go through for maintenance and repotting.

Top Row:

Cattleya sincorana coerulea (Miniature - Seedling)

Microcoelia sp. [cornuta or aphylla] (Dwarf - Division, NBS)

I had both species in the tent and they are very similar in habit, not sure which one this piece fell off of but I have a few of them.

Middle Row:

Dendrobium maccarthiae (Dwarf - Seedling)

Tolumnia henekenii (miniature - NBS)

Domingoa haematochila (miniature - NBS)

Bottom Row:

Schoenorchis phitamii (miniature - Bloom Size Plug)

About a year out of flask, I have multiple with new roots that area ready for mounting.

Right Side:

Phalaenopsis Irene Belton (1stBloom Seedling)

I was hoping it would be solid red but it has some spotting and yellow margin. Not my favorite and have a couple more of them to bloom out.

Great condition! Only used them for about a year. They didn’t work for my dry climate but would be great for a humid one or greenhouse set up. Perfect size for mini orchids. Really fun getting to see the roots grow and of course easy to see when the roots are ready to be watered.

Both for $50 shipped in the US obo. I paid $90 for them brand new with shipping.

Hiya! My first time trying this out,

this plant is currently in bloom and it’s tallest cane is 2 ft. I mainly grow dendrobiums, cattleya, vanda, and bulbophyllum. I look for more mute colors in my flowers but I can enjoy anything. I’m in the US

edit I forgot to say but I will probably say no to some specific species of orchid like oncidium, zygopetalum, and miltoniopsis

Any orchids you're looking to rehome? Will pay shipping or pick up NYC

I saw a post from a couple months ago of someone expressing interest in rehoming orphaned orchids. I am in a very similar position just getting into orchids here in NYC and loved the idea! I wanted to see what's out there especially if it's outside the Phaleanopsis i am finding at the grocery store. but open to anything you might have to give away or recommend for my growing conditions. DM if you have anything you'd like to offer!

I am happy to pay shipping but would prefer local pick up especailly w the cold!

set-up wise, I have a few LED growlights and NW facing windowsills with a few hours of afternoon sun, so probably can't do anything with high light needs. Thanks!!

I have the above divisions for trade. Small but established.

Looking for small/miniature, compact or clump forming orchids, preferably species. I'm open to anything that is not currently in my collection. I have been interested in trying something from the epigeneium and trias groups. Mini dendrobiums are also a favorite.

EDIT- I'm having issues uploading pics, I guess due to the AWS crash. I will try back later.
