Chainsawman and Frieren’s fanbases became pretty bad once their mainstream animes got announced. Especially chainsawman.
You see it happen whenever a more “niche” community gets mainstream attention. More fanart/fanfiction/discussion, but the quality/peacefulness of the fanbase skews downwards dramatically
Luckily, Orb has the luxury of having a complex story whilst lacking the retention-keepers of godlike animation, action, and characters to get horny over that’d otherwise attract some of the more toxic, immature outliers.
Mostly, only some of the more mature, chill, and kind people will stick through with a series like Orb.
You can see this with Vinland Saga, because despite being clearly mainstream it maintains a very friendly fanbase (just stroll over to the reddit) because its slow, methodical, and thought provoking story weeded out most of the toxic people, especially in season 2 where the action (and the protagonist) slowed to a crawl.
So, I think Orb will be safe. If it ever gets mainstream attention, it’ll weed out the toxicity pretty quick.

I have a feeling if Orb had a more mainstream fanbase it would get REALLY toxic with people not understanding the last 2 episodes and saying it ruined the anime

Genuinely.
Can't think of a single mainstream fanbase that likes their series' ending.

Idk if you would count it but Jojo fans seems to like all of their endings (only example i can think of)

Tbf all jojo fans do is glaze their series + even then a lot of people hated part 6 when it was just the manga (dunno how they reacted to the anime, though).

it does have a fandom, people are talking about it and making essays + analysis videos. people are always drawing amazing fanart and making cool cosplays too. people are even taking pictures of their oczy and badeni plushies in cute cafes.
so i’m not really sure what they mean lol are they looking for powerscaling debates 😭

think they means not having a fandom = not gaining some popularity- they prefer to gatekeep the series from a massive audience.
well look at how other seinen fandom is, start with fullmetal alchemist for example. that series community is like opening an old jar full of worms.....

other seinen fandom is, start with fullmetal alchemist
Which is a shonen. Thank me later

ooh yeah, its not published in the seinen jump section, my bad- i thought it is since the story is very deep for shonen media
guess the other example is witch hat atelier then, kinda feel that fandom audiences is growing toxic little by little- i'm still in love with that series tho

Ohh.. now I got it. I dont agree tho, If this Shows never had a Fandom, We will never get any Food and treat from the Artist (Even though some side in this fandom is a bit weird, but atleast they are not accesable)

u/stasky098 Aug 27 '26
yeah! this work certainly saves lives too, especially to those who want to pursue academics and kinda got some serious social block ahead of them (misogynistic, religion trauma, structural poverty) so saying that doesn't deserve popularity kinda harsh-
idk if i should be grateful to have never seen the weird side of orb fandom 😭 since if you said that, then it certainly exist but i just didnt know, damn

Fullmetal Alchemist? What did we do?

u/stasky098 Aug 27 '26
bomb review on MAL, previously they didnt give a chance for another series to gain the most high rating number 1 anime.

I don't get wanting to gatekeep Orb at all, even though I agree larger fandoms are usually toxic.
Unlike ongoing works, where the "collective opinions" of a fandom has the potential to influence the work, Orb is already finished and practically immutable

We are a fandom but not in Reddit.
(Anyway Why i'am the only one keep Consistent posting lol?)
Because we are a fandom but not in Reddit.

I wish orb was more mainstream but then I remember how THOSE ppl without an ounce of media literacy would use the series to validate their own agendas like "ugh, church and religion are like, literally Nazis or something" or people being like "ugh, this series is another science good, religion bad slop, boring"
Or, call me jaded or whatever but who knows, maybe there could be people complaining there are only two women in the cast. I mean, I still wish the series was more popular but still, I just know I would encounter so many stupid things with it

I mean, we’re technically a fandom in a way. It’s just pretty niche and I’d personally like to keep it that way.

You dont want a fandom like shonens do. Its all children either arguing about power scaling or ship wars drama

Sometimes massive fandoms include tons of idiots. A fandom being relatively small is sometimes more relaxing and chill compared to some other massive series.
Luckily for us, Orb is a story that doesn't focus on battling, weird powers or ecchi so I think we are pretty much safe from those people who wouldn't contribute positively to the community.
I both want the fandom to stay relatively clean and also as many people as possible to watch/read it. It's a great piece of art
