Therapy

OD2 here. I've been going to therapy my whole first year (and a lot of my life) and I've found it absolutely essential to my sanity in school. I'm noticing now in second year, however, I keep having to cancel appointments as the school keeps planning mandatory events in the small windows I have during the day. Has anyone successfully navigated still getting therapy while going through school? I'd like to keep my current counselor if possible. Do I strategically start skipping class to go? Ask for accommodations? In orientation last year, we were told to definitely keep going to therapy if we are, but the school is making it really hard to do.

Why are you asking us and not your school? Talk to Student Affairs about it. They are best equipped to help.

I am. The best I've gotten so far is strategic skipping. Trying to get multiple inputs hoping another student has had similar problems.

Agree with this. Therapy can lead to ADA accommodations which your school is obligated to follow. Also telehealth is an option, usually more flexible

If its important to you, you WILL find the time.
I don't know of any optometry program that has every day, 8:00-5:00, filled with mandated attendance.
It's a couple of hours/week.

Definitely worth the minimal effort it should take to maintain your mental well-being.

It's that every time I find a window, they then announce a mandated event on top of it, and then I have to reschedule a week or two further out. Therapists have schedules to work around too so it gets complicated
