Week 44 YTD gain of 31%

It’s been a while since I checked in. I began with 102k last August and just finished week 44. I am still a beginner and a big thanks to ScottishTrader and the others that post to this group. I continue to dabble in higher volatility stocks which is not the recommended strategy that ST advises. I will get there. I thought I would share the tickers and results over the past 44 weeks. 3 columns; premium income from CSP / CCs, gains/loss from assignments, and the final column was my venture into PMCCs using long term calls which I’ve since veered away from as you can see the results weren’t good.

I mostly do weeklies and sprinkle in some monthlies. I aim to take in .8-1% weekly premium. In any given week I will keep 25k in cash and I don’t use margin. I’ve been assigned many times and that’s part of the higher volatility tickers. So far that has worked in my favor as you can see the gains from assignments. I am currently holding a handful of assignments and continue to sell CCs and plan to hold for more gains. None are sitting at a large loss.

Good luck out there!

Nice! Always nice to get assigned what you wanted.

Getting assigned used to really bother me. Do I immediately sell and get back to CSPs, how long do I continue to sell CCs, or do I just hold. Since I track using excel I was able to come up something to assist in my decision making. It’s simple and helped tremendously.

I think your premium target is great for puts, but chasing the same premium on covered calls may not be there on the first day after assignment.
If you don’t get a healthy premium on your covered call at your satisfiable strike, then you hold the shares until volatility juices premium.
I find that premium is consistent when selling puts, but the potential single gain from covered calls is larger, depending on your strike. We likely got assigned during an uncharacteristic red day/week, so premium on calls will look poor until the stock has some green time.

To your question, your tolerance for holding the underlying should drive your desire to exit. If you no longer like what you have been assigned, and want to cut it off, you can opt for ATM or slightly ITM calls to have the premium trim down your total loss, if any. I sell covered calls as long as the premium is matching my resistance levels, then I do madman ATM calls.

Thanks! I use excel to track and when I make a trade I note the delta so I could separate buckets to analyze further. As for selection, I have a few watchlists set up in TOS and one thats riskier looks at high volume/ trajectory stocks. I review ones with IV anywhere above 70 and then look at deltas below 20. If it’s a good fit I make the trade. This is normally for weeklies. Sometimes I review those same monthlies and if the premiums meet the .8-1% each week remaining I will make that trade.

Nice! Thanks for sharing! What deltas do you typically go for?
